I fight lots of Space Marines/Chaos/Orks and play lots of Space Marines, I want to change my tune a bit and potentially build an IG, but want to get a starting list down to expand on.

1500pts:

HQ:

Lord Commissar - Carapace Armor, Bolt Pistol, Power Sword.

Elite:

Guardsman Marbo

Storm Trooper Squad, 2 flamers.
Storm Trooper Squad, 2 Plasmaguns.

Troops:

Veteran Squad -- Autocannon team.
Veteran Squad -- Autocannon team.

Fast:

Rough Rider Squad -- Sarge w/ Power Maul.

Heavy:

Russ Squadron 1:
Demolisher -- Pintle heavy Stubber, Dozer blade, Hull HB.
Executioner -- Pintle heavy Stubber, Dozer blade, Hull HB

Russ Squadron 2:
Vanquisher -- Pintle heavy Stubber, Hull HB
Vanquisher -- Pintle heavy Stubber, Hull HB

I thought about dropping the Dozer blades to bump up to Lascannon teams with the vets, but not sure, thinking I have a good bit of anti armor. Stubbers on the russes in case anyone decides to get up close and personal.

There seems to be one major problem with the list. The Vets. They are completely out in the open. And with the AC, they can't move a lot. I'm certain they will get blown to pieces in no time. To be honest, I've never found attaching HW to Vets very helpful. I like them being mobile and inside of a Chimera so they can get to where they need to be alive. Replace those Autocannons with Plasma's or Melta's.

There is also no one to give orders to your Vets. All you have is the Lord. Orders have saved my men in tight spots, so it might be helpful to change him out for a CCS, also inside of a Chimera.

Dozer Blades are useless, drop em, and you will have 20 points to sprinkle around. I've always been iffy about ST, but if they work for you, go for it. But, if you're going to use Stormtroopers, don't give them Flamers. Go all out. Plasma's or Melta's! I suggest Melta's though, don't want to give up that expensive unit because the Plasma blew up in his face. I also suggest dropping the Heavy Stubbers on the Vanquishers. You won't need them at the range the Vanquishers have.

Not too bad. The biggest problem, I'd agree is the vets.

Drop out the rough riders, and you'll have enough points to give your vets some special weapons. Drop the really pointless heavy stubbers and use some left over points from the rough riders to give them both chimeras.

Otherwise, the russes could be a bit more optimal. If you insist on running a demolisher, then put it in its own squad at least so that you don't drag a hapless executioner along for the ride.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will have to play around with it a bit and see what I can do, I know that dropping the riders, dozers and heavy weapons won't net me enough to get 2 Chimeras for the Vets, I could get one of them in a Chimera but not both.

DJ -- what would you suggest in place of ST?

Ailaros -- you say "if you insist on running a demolisher" I rather like the thought of a S10 AP1 large blast running around the map to scare the pants off Marines, what would you suggest in place of the Demo?

Well, when it comes to infantry, I've always put my faith in the Vets. They have good BS, can take three Melta's and kick butt most of the time in my game. What I suggest is scrap the ST's completely, and get yourself a Vendetta, and another group of Vet's and equip them with Melta's. Vendetta can kill any AT and the Vet's are a just in case you need support.

By dropping both ST squads, Rough Riders, and those Pintle's and Dozers, you should easily be able to afford a Vendetta and Vet squad with Melta's and the Chimera's for the other two squads.

And I would be a little hesistant about the Demolisher as well. The IG love their range, and with the Demolisher, you are restricting yourself on that. Why not take a Basilisk, or better yet, a Manticore? Longer range, and can do basically the same job. Slap in another Executioner to pair up with your other Executioner, and they will both do fine. I also suggest taking out the Lord and putting in a CCS. Those orders are needed. Take out the Autocannons in both squads, and with all the changes, you can give the CCS a Chimera as well. Any armor they meet should be dealt with by the Executioners.

After feedback I have re-tooled and it worked out quite amazingly thanks, here is the new list I came up with, LMK your thoughts.

Vendetta

Heavy:
2 Vanquisher -- Hull HB
2 Executioner -- Hull HB

Total: 1502 (this is casual only and 2 points is acceptable for my group)

You could make it work:

Primaris Psyker

Stormtroopers (5) - 2x flamers

Veterans - 3x meltaguns, chimera
Veterans - 3x meltaguns, chimera

Vanquisher - lascannon, plasma cannons
Vanquisher - lascannon, multimeltas

Vanquisher - lascannon, plasma cannons
Vanquisher - lascannon, multimeltas

Eradicator - lascannon, multimeltas


And voila, you get to keep some stormies, your vets get better guns, and you now have 5 russes. And you have a LOT more killing power.

I thought there was an issue with the lascannons on russes being snapfire only after the faq to lumbering behemoth?

Only with ordnance weapons (hence my comment about demolishers). Non-ordnance russes can always fire everything.

Ahhhh that makes much more sense, I don't know why but I wasn't put 2 and 2 together with the rules for some reason. Thanks Ail.
