Mauler is a great heavy armor killer. You can turn it into a decent tarpit with tendrils but I prefer the magma for extra insurance against it's primary targets.
Hadesfiend is my preferred choice due to it's longer range and decent AA shooting. Ectofiend is nasty against many units like Broadside or Wraith troops.

I prefer the Forgefiend personally, but only because I ally in a Herald of Tzeentch to grant him Prescience for TL guns. In competitive lists, the Maulerfiend is often favored due to the speed it has. Throwing two of those, plus bikes and spawn and winged princes down someones throat is usually impossible to gun down.

Don't get just one, you need at least two. I prefer the Hades because with two hadesfiends, that's an awful lot of Dakka being thrown out there.

But forge fiends are so expensive, that point cost vs efficiency makes it not that good. If it was AP3 on the other hand then it might have been worth it.
Maulers on the other hand are amazing, draws so much fire to them since it's a big target that moves fast and people are scared of that. But in CC destroys most elite units or vehicles.

Maulerfiends are deadly against vehicles, but don't have the attacks to deal with infantry. And anyone with grenades or well-equipped seargents can fight back just as hard as you can.
Forgefiends, on the other hand, can glance or pen vehicles with either load out, and tears through xenos, MEq and TEq, and hordes. Plus you don't have to wait, it can shoot from turn 1!
The choice is clear.
Magnetize and have both options!

Maulerfiends are better in every way except for hurting fliers or breaking open transports for something else to assault.
The biggest problem with forgefiends is that for 175 points you get 4 autocannon hits. With havocs you get 5.3 autocannon hits for only 115 points. It's tough to justify that huge points cost increase.
Meanwhile, the plasma cannons are neat, but they're so short of range that they're more or less only a defensive weapon. I don't terribly care for plasma cannons to begin with, and especially in a CSM army, and especially if they don't have the range to start killing stuff turn 1.
The forgefiend is expensive, and other things in the codex can do what they do. The maulerfiend is a cheap source of S10 and melta that is basically a jetbike. Much sassier.

With the Hades Autocannon's 8S vs auto cannon 7s, and Pinning on top of that, I still say Forge > havocs. Plus they're way more durable; havocs are way too easy to wipe or just fail a leadership and run off the board 'cause they're always hiding in the back.
Maulerfiend may be sassier, but Forgefiend is also firing from turn 1, can deal with armour, MC, infantry, fliers, you name it. Maulerfiends really don't do well against infantry due to not being able to kill enough to accomplish anything. They're even worse against hordes. Small groups of TEq, sure they can work 'em over but the TEq can usually break it right back. Vehicles are absolutely prey to to the Mauler, but that's it.
