Any Space Wolves players use Ghost Tints? I was going to purchase the set while I found some still available, but I'm not sure they'll get much use. How would a Space Wolves player utilize them?

Don't think ghost tints will be able to do much for space wolves. There is a blue ghost tint, but even heavily thinned I'm not sure it would do too well for SW's. The regular Minitaire paints have a great range with lots of cold greys and blues that should match the space wolves theme though.

101-111 and 144-148 would be the range you'd look at for their normal paints. 144, 177, or 180 are the ghost tints that *might* be able to do the trick but from looking at how they came out when I sprayed the tops of my minitaire bottles with their colours it doesn't look like it. I'm not great at mixing paints though.

I can try and spray something if you like, I have spare aobr marines that are good guinea pigs ; p

My Minitaire bottles with sprayed tops over I think Minitaire base grey: Minitaire bottles. Top right -top left, second row top left to top right and so on. Ghost tints are the last... 12? or so.

I suppose you're right. I also paint mine fairly neutral grey so even the blue wouldn't be any good. They'd be great for cloaks if I had many.

Maybe I should start a new army so I can justify the ghost tints! I've thought about buying a full paint line. Either Minitaire or VMA.

There's a fair bit of discussion about the 2 brands if you do a search. I like both, in the US you should be able to get the Minitaire set really cheap - 80 30ml bottles for $130 is amazing. price per volume. Minitaire does have some problems - arguably bad metallics and glossy paints that can cause trouble to brush over and maybe higher than normal dry tip without additives. VMA is less vibrant colours but a great all round set. I have a lot of them - the other 2/3 of the box the Mintaire are in ; p (with some game, model and liquid gold too)

If you enjoy painting and plan to be in the hobby, buying a paint set is a great idea imo so you have a good number of colours to work with.

Sounds like the issues with Minitaire are easy enough to fix. A bit of Matte varnish and they're fine. I do have a strong preference for Vallejo's metallics, even outside their Liquid Metal line. How is Minitaire for military colors? Ideally, the set I buy would cover both gaming, and the scale military models I do with just a little supplement possibly.

You could probably make do with Minitaire for military colours, but VMA has many more shades of the military colours. Minitaire is very much in the fantasy/sci-fi range with some vibrant colours like trollblood, lust pink, daemonic flesh etc. If you primarily want military colours, definitely go for VMA. Although the cost still enters into it... Minitaire can be damn cheap.

Yeah VMA metallics are the best to airbrush hands down, you can see my range in the pic above coincidentally. Also great to brush on. Minitaire metals were bad to brush on, in addition to being a little iridescent - which might be fixable with a matt varnish too but I didn't try.

Well, maybe in that case it'd be better for me to get the Minitaire line, and supplement with VMA as needed for military models. My models are gaming and Sci-Fi related much more than anything else.

I wonder if they'll rework their metallics. I had heard they're monkeying around with the varnishes and other technical additions.
