What do you base that on? seems like a pretty arbitrary thing to say. Warhammer is a pretty stupid waste of money too, I suppose, by any reasoning I can figure from what you said.

I'll say this not because I think Kickstarters are a waste of money, but because it's the superior (and cheaper!) product. The Kickstarter scene is horribly bloated right now and there's definitely a lot of people striking while the iron's hot, but I don't think it's a waste of money any more than anything else. It's basically just a pre-order service.

You could convert your own. You could get a normal GW one (and that way nobody can nitpick about the possibility of it not having exactly the same dimensions as the official model) and have Scarabs all over it, either swamping it in a big tide (need lots of Scarabs...) or scuttling over it like they're disassembling it molecule by molecule.
