Scenario: Dreadnought charges a Chimera loaded with Melta-Vets from 1" away (will end up in B2B regardless of dice roll).
Melta Vets Overwatch with 3 meltaguns.
1 hit, Penetrates, results in a Immobilized result (and 1 HP lost on the dred).

So, does the Dreadnought become immobilized at the point it started the assault (resulting in an automatic failed charge) or does it end up in base contact with the Chimera, immobilized but still able to strike the vehicle?

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

Thats a good question.

In the BRB its only stated that Walkers which are immobilized, have -1 A and all Hits are done against Reararmor.

Nothing that a charge fails.

An immobilized vehicle can not move.

Overwatch happens before the charge range dice are rolled, so if it is immobilized it can not make the assault move.

What DR said. Overwatch is resolved before you even roll the charge distance dice.

As the walker is now immobilized, it now can't do its charge move and stays 1" away from the Chimera.

This. See the rulebook p20 for the complete assault phase sequence, where it states that Overwatch is completely resolved before the movement is made.

This saved my skin in a tournament once. 3 Deffkoptas versus a hellbrute.
He killed one Deffkopta in the shooting phase, causing me to flee. Since he was facing me and I was (At the moment) close tohis bboard edge, I ended up about eight inches behind him after I fled.
He then tried to charge, but due to lucky dice, twin linked rokkits, and Rear Armor I scored an immobilized result. Since we were unsure on how to continue we called over the TO. He said that the charge couldn't be made, saving the life of my Deffkoptas. (With him immobilized and exposed to my rokkits, his Hellbrute died next turn. The game ended with a win for me. So did the tournament!)
