Hello!
New to wargaming, new to 40k. I've been playing in this Escalation League and while I'm not *unhappy* with my results, on average I'm split on points and matches, I think I could improve. We're going from 1,000 to 1,250 next week and I'm struggling with what my list should look like.
I'm currently playing:
When you post your lists for dissection here the total points value and costs of the individual units are fine to list, but please refrain from listing the cost of each and every upgrade.
So
HQ:
Rune Priest
Runic Armor
Chooser Of The Slain
Elite:
5 Wolf Guard
TDA
TH/ SS
Assault Cannon
2x Wolf Claws
Drop Pod - Deathwind ML
Lone Wolf
TDA
2x Fenrisian Wolves
Combi-Melta, Chainfist
Troop:
Grey Hunter
2x Plasma Cannon
Wolf Standard
Grey Hunter
2x Melta
Wolf Standard
Drop Pod - Storm Bolter
Heavy:
Long Fang
4x ML
I need to improve this to 1,250 but I'm completely stuck. So far my Terminators have been massively underperforming, my Lone Wolf does *work* and my Grey Hunters have been all-stars or meat shields. And only recently have I sorted out that 4 small blast templates from ML Longfangs against troops is really what they're supposed to be used for.
My first instinct is to go with a Quad-Gun ADL and another pack of Longfangs, this time with two MLs and two LCs.
Any feedback and help here is incredibly appreciated.
Thank you.

So, you're at 1,000 now?
What tactics are you using with your WG? If they're slogging straight up the middle, they'll be bullet sponges. Have you thought about deep striking them?
GH are awesome, so maybe consider getting more.
If you're going to be using your ML LF as frag missile guys only, why bother getting two more in another squad? Why not get LC's so you can target multiple armored units with multiple shots?

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

Welcome to Dakka!
I don't play Space wolves, but heres my 2 cents anyway:
I'm not sure an assault cannon with assault terminators is the best idea, it might be better to trade it out for another TH/SS.
If your using the Grey Hunters in the drop pod to outflank, it might be worth it to give the drop pod a locator beacon so you can deep strike your assault terminators behind the enemy. If you don't want to use them to outflank, you could put them in a Land Raider for transport and heavy support. Aside from that, solid list!

Yes, I am at 1,000 right now - which is what I posted here - I realize the title reads "1250 ... list" and I'm kind of asking for help getting to 1,250 - sorry if I confused things there.
Usually, I'm Deep Striking my WG in with a DP and generally positioning them near something I'd like to wreck. I think most of my errors using them from the start have been completely forgetting you can't assault after a DS.
The ML LF missiles have been used situationally, if I need them to try to crack open armor, they'll solid shot into something, if not, I'll dump frag into a squad of troops. I've only been using one squad so far. The other two in the other squad are simply because "that's what I have available" - I'm not terribly keen on dropping a bunch of cash on bits at the moment. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get LC's.
In an ideal world, I'd have one set with LC's and one set with Missile Launchers, but cash and availability are hurting my options at the moment. Any suggestions on better use of the squad? I can split the models into 3 LC and 1 ML or 3ML and 1LC currently.

The Assault Cannon was something I was just toying with - it's kind of just how I put the models together in my ignorance of "best practice". Most of the time I find my TH/ SS is my biggest bullet sponge, but I often play him at the front of the unit ... so that may be a mistake there.
I was using my GH in the DP to mop up units and to try to blow up troublesome armor.
When Deep Striking behind the enemy, ideally, they'd need to DS behind cover and pop out into action the next turn when they can assault, is that right?

Well 1st its Plasma Gun on the Grey Huntes not Plamsa Cannons, but other than that it looks good.
The Sugestions:
The Wolf Guard with the Paired Wolf Claws, I would Go with a Wolf Claw and either a Chain Fist or Power Fist.
I would also add either some Power Weapons to the Grey Hunters and/or MotW.
As far as the Drop Pods, I would go with three, that way 2 would show on Turn-1

So, moving into the 1,250 range, give the GH some CC options in Power Weapons or MotW, and add a Drop Pod to the table. I'm not high on cash right now and I'm really only looking to drop about 30-50 dollars this month.
If I remember correctly I currently have my WG TDA built as follows:
2x TH/ SS
2x Assault Cannon/Power Fist
2x Storm Bolter/Power Weapon
1x Storm Bolter/Chain Fist
1x Storm Bolter/Power Fist
1x Double Wolf Claw
(I built them when ignorant and they're all painted and glued)
How would you go about building and using a DP WG TDA Unit from that pile?
Moving into 1,250 - do you think I'd be better off taking another GH unit in a DP and adding a LF unit with 3 LCs, or adding a LF Unit with 3LCs and dropping them in Razorbacks?

Here is a thought:
Wolf Guard Pack #1
1x Storm Bolter/Power Weapon [I take it they are swords]
2x TH/ SS
1x Double Wolf Claw
1x Assault Cannon/Power Fist
Drop Pod
Wolf Guard Pack #2
1x Storm Bolter/Power Weapon [I take it they are swords]
1x Storm Bolter/Chain Fist
1x Storm Bolter/Power Fist
1x Assault Cannon/Power Fist
I would see about getting just a normal Terminator with a Storm Bolter and another Power Weapon, an Axe or Maul would be good.
Drop Pod
Now there are my ways to proxy Drop Pods, including paper-craft. They are not hard to find paterns.
PM me if you want me to send you one.

Good morning Dakka!
So I've sorted out my purchase and I've decided to pull the trigger and bite the bullet on 2x Razorbacks and to build another set of Longfangs from the boxes and bits I have available. I'm looking to build an optimal 1250 list for "general fun yet competitive play". Would love some help here if anyone has any suggestions.
Posting what I have access to:
Njal Stormcaller (or Rune Priest)
2x (5) Wolf Guard Terminators, the load out is listed above
1x Wolf Scouts
5x Fenrisian Wolves that I use for Fenrisian Wolf Wargear.
3x 10 Grey Hunters (one unit with Plasma, one with Melta, one with nothing)
2x 5 Longfangs + Squadleaders - One squad has 5 Missile Launchers, one has Lascannons
1x Landspeeder with Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon
2x Drop Pods
2x Razorbacks with Lascannons
My only real "desire" is to play one Lone Wolf.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good 1,250 list?
