Holo-fields modify cover saves (exactly like stealth and Shrouded), so you would get your Jink save modified by Holo-fields.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

4+ if it moves, 3+ if it goes flat out Nothing if it's stationary.
5+ default for Jink
+1 for Holofields
+1 if move flat out

If you also get a cover save from a ruin or anything that gives 4+ cover save, and give that you moved; a vehicle that has holo fields can have a 3+ cover save without going flat out

What's the community's outlook on when a serpent is stationary out in the open? Do the Holofields give you the 6+ coversave or not? Many have argued both ways.

I was under the impression a Holo-field increases your cover save by 1. I cannot see how that would grant you a cover save if you didn't have one to begin with.
In fairness I don't own the codex, my friend plays them so I don't know the exact wording.

That was a pointless argument then, the rules are quite clear that you have to move.
And for extra info, the only way to have a 6+ cover save with holofields is to have them on warwalkers, which would be redundant since they already have a 5++. Every other eldar vehicle gets 4+++ (not counting any other modifiers)

As hyv3mynd stated, Holo-fields require movement. They also state that if you had no cover save then it is improved to 6+, but this would only matter if the vehicle moved but was not entitled to a Jink save (being fired upon by Dark Reapers for example).

If you cast fortune you pretty much get a 4++ save and then can reduce pens down to glancing as well.
Fecking annoying for your enemy as it does take a fair amount to bring one down.

True, but your Rhino is 1/3 the cost of the Wave Serpent, the Razorback 1/2 the cost. The Rhino is a throw-away "deliver my troops where they need to be before sploding" transport, whereas the Serpent is a transport battle tank that is necessary to keep the wimpy Eldar troops alive until end game.

The way I look at it is fairly simple:
Every faction should have one unit that stands head and shoulders above the equivalent unit other factions field. This isn't to say that balance should be thrown out the window for this one unit, but just that it should be noticeably better so it stands out. The elder clearly have the 'king of all Personal Carriers,' and I don't see that as a bad thing because other codex's clearly have their own 'king of all' units, and we will get no where if all we did was complain that X is over powered or Y is overpowered. Particularly as more codex's are released, given there always seems to be a desire to 'one up' previous releases.

The 'Serpents firepower when shooting it's shield is what makes it OP. It is a tough nut to crack, but Eldar do pay for that (and it fits their race - squishy troops are protected from the rabble by their superior tech vehicles).

Holo fields require you move the on the previous turn
You don't get them on turn 1 at all. But it means you can get a 6+ for standing still next turn if you moved previously.
And yes it does give a 6+ as stealth and shrouded give you a save out in the open, as does going to ground.
Actually, you're operating under a misconception.
1. The brb states that references to "turn" mean "player turn" unless "game turn" is specified.
2. The rule for holofields states that "if the vehicle moved in the previous turn.."
3. Therefore, you do indeed get the save in turn one if the eldar player goes first and moves, because once it is the second player's turn, the vehicle did indeed move in the previous turn. This is because the holofield rule does not specify game turn, therefore the default is a player turn.
Also, the claim of being able to get the cover save while not moving as long as you moved in your last turn is incorrect as that does not count as the previous turn. (again turn vs game turn)
