General musing, may throw up some interesting ideas. What are the best/most efficient/cheapest (pick/all?) strX shooting/assaulting/etc. across all armies currently in play for 40k.

Str3 - Conscripts @ 4ppm per shot (I believe?)
Str4 - Err... Termagants? 5ppm per shot
Etc..

Pick any part of the range, all of it. Curious as to people views.

Str10 - Canoptek Spyder (Smash USR) @ 50ppm

Not sure if that's a viable answer. I guess not cause you want shooting...

Two answers from me. Tau Fire Warriors give you rapid fire S5 on the cheap, and it's by far the best default troop gun in the game.
Coming in a very close second, Dark Eldar kabalite warriors get to cheat their way round the Strength value with poison.

S8 melta comes in at 20ppm from a guard SWSs, but I think GK can do it better.

Ork boys with Shoota R18 str 4 Ap6 Assault2 6pts ... ok its on an ork but you did give me conscripts and i think most people would agree that 2 more points gives a much better statline.

Lootas are also nice 15pts (str7 Ap4 Heavy D3)

GK warrior acolytes put out 18 melta guns at 252 points coming out to 14 pts per str 8 ap1 shot

This only considered damage output per point without any counting for durability.

Indeed horrors, basic load out 16 horrors 1 herald ml3 with locus conjuraton, 8d6 of str 6 ap4 shots (avg 28ish) at 264pts works out as 9pts per str6 shot.

Updated to include EVERYTHING. (Melee, 'other' (Deff Rolla?), shooting, HQ combos, etc).

Fireblade + 12 Firewarriors = Str5 15" 4.3/shot (168pts, 39 shots) or 6.5 (168pts, 26 shots).
