Looking to get an Artograph 1520 or 1530 booth. I will be painting in the living room (we have a small place) and was wondering about fumes and overspray.

I am going to vent the fumes outside using dryer hose. Anyone used this particular booth before and could comment on how well it captures fumes and overspray.

  Thanks.

So no overspray or noticeable fumes?

  How loud is that one?

Dont know about that one. I have this and it works pretty darn well.

Does this system make much noise ? I would be interested, but I have to wait for the kids to be asleep before painting

I have the artogrpah 1520. It's not terribly loud, but I never use the extraction function any more. I'm spraying water-based acrylics that are non-toxic.

I didn't like the cardboard screen so I bought the metal one with the acrylic window to allow me to get more light on the model I'm spraying.

Vallejo Model Air mostly, but also Citadel paints. The fume extraction is only really necessary for solvent-based paints.

Sounds like when you are using water based paints, you can go with something homemade

Vallejo Model Air mostly, but also Citadel paints. The fume extraction is only really necessary for solvent-based paints

Arschbombe, do you prefer Vallejo airbrush or Citadel ? till now I have only used Citadel ones, but they need to be highly diluted, and some are not easy to use.

I like VMA because it can be airbrushed right out of the bottle, though a drop of Vallejo airbrush thinner is recommended by the company. The only limitation with VMA is the range of colors. It's got some good primary colors, but it doesn't have a lot of the citadel/vallejo game color types colors appropriate for 40k. It's mostly oriented at the military modelling market.

I have found that the Citadel paints spray just fine when properly thinned so I continue to use them when I need those colors. I do thin them with liquitex airbrush medium and transfer them to reaper eye-dropper bottles to make them more user friendly.

you are sadly mistaken. airbrush dust from hobby acrylics is very bad. and can someone please show me where GW says all their paints are non toxic???

edit- hm, they do say under each paint description on the website that they are nontoxic... that's quite surprising if it's true. i wonder why it doesnt say non toxic on the paint pot label?

Because they are labeling in accordance with ADTM D-4236 which would require them to label them with warnings if they did present hazards. No hazard means no warning.

In contrast Tamiya Fine Surface Primer is also labeled to that standard and has all kinds of warnings on the can:

  Danger:Extremely Flammable Liquid and Vapors

The hood that comes with the 1520 is just cardboard. The idea is that you use it until it wears out and then get another one. It is rather flimsy, but it works well enough. The cost of the 1520 is in the extraction system and filter tray.

Don't you have an overspray issue since you are not collecting the fumes?
