I know I'm fighting an uphill battle to begin with in fielding a BA army. Add to that that I have never played BA or 6E before and I should be in for some good times . I'm not looking to be ultra-competitive, but don't want to be an auto-table either. I'd also like to stick to BA character while avoiding cheese as well. Anyways, here goes:

125 Librarian with JP, Shield, and Smite

175 Furioso Dreadnaught with Drop Pod, Frag Cannon, and Magna Grapple (retain the meltagun fist)

175 Death Company (5 Marines) with JP

115 Assault squad (5 Marines) with JP and Sgt w/ LC

140 Assault squad (5 Marines) with JP, Meltagun and Sgt w/ Thunder Hammer

135 RAS (5 Marines) with TLHF, Flamer, and Sgt w/ Hand Flamer

135 RAS (5 Marines) with TLHF, Flamer, and Sgt w/ Hand Flamer

1000pts even

Intentions are to drop in the Dread and DOA the melta assault squad to threaten armor and big things, use the RAS to hit infantry and hordes, and use the Libby, LC Sgt assault squad and DC in tandem as the throw away suicide brigade.

Any insight much appreciated.

1000 pts is rough for BA. What's the plan for a flying MC or two? Or a helldrake?

I'm sorry, but what are RAS? Razorback assault squad? If so they sound cool.

I dont see why people say BA are so hard done by ATM, they are basically just space marines in all respects but some units may become angrier, plus they have cheaper heavy weapons, more dreads, bad-ass librariansand priests! am i missing something here? Anyway, on with the advice.

I think you could drop the Death Copany, they are overpriced. the problem you will have is the small units will just get capped off one by one,

If you drop the Death Co, and drop the Thunder hammer to a Power Fist you can boost both Assault Squads to 10 strong!

That dread and 1 melta gun don't pose a great threat to tanks, and are just about useless vs flyers but you would need a major overhaul to achieve that, or try to stick some las cannons on the razorbacks.

So, Bigger units, bit of anti tank/ anit air wouldn't hurt, and just because no BA army is complete without, a Priest (could run a razorback for the cheap)

On a different note, it looks a very fun and fluffy list, but in terms on not wanting to be insta-owned i think some of the above would help.

RAS = razorback assault squad. Sorry for the confusion there.

Is the dread really no good vs armor? I was thinking it would fare well, dropping in right by the opponent's most prized armor and unleashing some melta/rending templates/grapple pain.

As far as anti- mc/flier, any suggestions? My knee-jerk reaction is to get a lascannon predator or maybe lascannon razorback for a cheaper option.

I would suggest avoiding DC at this point value. I would trade them out for a normal squad of assault marines. I always try to put as many bodies as possible on the table as I can. Librarian w/JP, 3 10 man assault squads w/meltas, PW, MBs. A Sanguinary Priest or 2 for FNP. I squeeze one of the Libby Dreads in here sometimes, give him wings and shield so he can run with the rest of the army.. A fast fun list..

If you want to run DC, and I don't blame you for wanting to b/c they are one of the coolest units in the game, I have found the only way to legitimetly run them with success is without JP in a LR with mostly Bolters and maybe 1 or 2 power weapons with a Chaplain of some sort. Forget the 2 handed thing...they do just as much damage with Bolters because they have Relentless. Therefore you can fire your Bolters into the squad before you charge...just don't destroy your charge range by doing so. Most units you will be trading blows with so doing this will eliminate their casualties by taking some guys out before assaulting. Also when they charge they have 4 attacks each with a bolter!!! Do you really need a 5th? Also because you are running them in a LR they should all make it to CC. DC aren't exactly a secret and everyone knows they are one of the most dangerous units in the BA arsenal...real problem is they get focus fired and die to fast. They are a glass cannon..I know they have FNP but other then that they have no invuln and don't get FNP on Instant Death like double toughness value weapons. Your opponent will fire these weapons at them and won't stop until they are wiped which is why nobody uses them.

My opinion 10man DC 8 w/ Bolters 2w/ PowerSword/Pistol and a Chaplain w/ MeltaBombs (for rerolls to hit and wound) in a Land Raider Redeemer(TL Assault Cannon and Flamestorm Sponsons w/ MultiMelta Gunner) This makes them extremely versatile and rounds out at 585pts. With a ton of firepower. I don't think you could run this in a 1000pt army but when you get to 1500 it's a strong option imo.

Well, the first big problem I see are the DC... More ASM, or if you find the points, a SR.

Also, 5 man jump ASM are fairly weak without a Priest, so maybe you could do:

ASM (Melta, RB w/ HB, Meltabombs)

Its the same points I believe and a bunch more survivable and versatile.
