Hey all! Recently got myself kicked back into the hobby after finally finding a gaming group in my town!

We're not many, in fact we are only 4, but each one is an honorary member of the hobby, I myself having the least experience at 11 years, although I only recently started gaming for anything more than than a squad vs. squad game.

Now, I have already befriended them all but one in particular seems to like me.. and my painting. After hanging out for a while we came to the decision of making an Space Wolf army. For some reason, I honestly don't know, he want's me to do most of the painting and only asked to do the vehicles. I was more than okay with that as I don't really enjoy painting space marine vehicles, orks on the other hand..

Now, we haven't done much yet but planning and plotting. We've drawn up and recently started working on a really cool gaming table(I'll post some WIP pictures when I get my camera to his place since we're building it there.) and glued together some models. A large number of his Black Templars are also being re-painted in SW colors.

Like I said, we haven't done much, but I still have some photos of what has been done - As well as a side project I'm doing as a birthday present.

Please note that I know about the mold lines, they are in fact gone already and I will post pictures of the fixed models when I get the chance to!

Along with these I have the start to a fluff concerning the army and its Wolf Lord Thyrnir Wolfslayer(Thyrnir, or Þyrnir as its written in Icelandic, means thorn in chase any one is intrested.)

“My Lord, a message just got through to you from Inquisitor Klaven, off the highest urgency.”
Wolf Lord Thyrnir stopped for a moment in his steps. This soon?
“Send it through to me, brother Egill.”
“Roger that, sir.”
Wolf Lord Thyrnir kept walking towards his seat and strapped back down as the message began sending from the flight deck of the Thunderhawk Odin’s Revenge to the comm piece in his ear.

*****STARTING COMMUNICATION SEQUENCE *****

Commander Thyrnir Wolfslayer, I am pleased to have received your message of confirmation on a successful atmosphere penetration on the planet Ortiss. Now, you and the Space Marines you command have already been briefed but then we received the message from you concerning the details of your mission. After a lot of thinking we have decided that it is better for you to know what is coming in great detail or it might be the death of you.

The briefing hologram said that the Ork Mob you are to destroy is in fact a new, mutated breed of Orks, one that we have not encountered before. It was mentioned that the Orks in question are stronger and more dangerous than ever before. Let me explain to you why that is, per your request.

The last we heard from the Imperial Guard regiment stationed in the mining colony of Ortiss was not very encouraging news. They sent an Auspex feed from a security observation tower just outside the walls showing the mayhem these beasts are capable of inflicting.

I realize that by the time you hear this you will be landing or already slaying these green skins in the name of the Emperor so I’ll get to the point. The Orks have been infected. And along with it new Tyranid threat has arisen, and this time its not in the form of any gigantic beast, but from a single tiny organism that seems to pray on the Orks making them even more feral and destructive than before. We know this because only recently there had been reports of them wandering alone, unarmed and running like they had their life to lose, in the middle of the canyons. After ridding them from this world the guardsmen who looked over the body’s found them to look odd, not to mention the Orks behavior, so they brought it back and our scientists looked it over. What they found was a tiny alien life form that they could immediately identify as a Tyranid organism. It’s jaws where lodged in the green skins membrane but instead of teeth they found long tentacles with some sort of mildly erosive fluid leaking out the tip but other than that it resembled a minimized version of a single ripper. Upon its removal the creature was dead, but the discoverers of this new larva where certain this explained the twenty-odd Orks found running around in the middle of nowhere, each one alone, unarmed and seemingly without direction or purpose.

Then the incidents got completely out of control. Within weeks, all the squadrons who had been assigned on patrol outside the mining outposts walls had vanished without trace, and so had the rescue crew’s that had been sent out to locate them. When the massive horde of this new enemy finally appeared before the walls, the Imperial Guards didn’t stand a chance.

However, the evidence we have from the autopsies made, reports filed and the recording we received, this is what I can tell you for certain. These beasts have turned into completely mindless, feral ravagers. They have even lost their already handicapped ability to use and make weapons; they attack only with their hands, feet and teeth. We can also be certain that they are now faster than ever before, jumping distances as far as half the way up the defensive walls of the mining colony. They have grown even stronger, the larva like Tyranid supposedly injecting them with growth hormones, seeing as they climbed over the rest of the walls and according to reports it took a headshot or multiple rounds, even more than usual, to put them to the ground. Beware, Wolf Lord Thyrnir, for even though your Space Wolf strike force has a long saga of successful and mighty victories this is a new level of threat no man has faced before.

I expect the threat to be eliminated without mercy or doubt. Report to me at every chance you get. Purge them from this world.

Kitbashed, primed and started to paint an Emperors Champion for my friends BT, aswell as making him some tactical marines and assault marines. On SW news, I've almost finished the captain of the terminator squad who will also stand for the Wolf Lord Thyrnir, the leader of the army!

Plenty o' pictures when I have daylight tomorrow!

Space Wolves in the baby blue of doom!

the SW don't look bad, but I think I can see some small mistakes. The first one in particular seems to have some random paint on his right knee. I would consider painting the shoulder pads or at least one in a pack color just to break a bit the enormous quantity of baby blue.

Oh, and the display board looks pretty cool so far

Thank you for your comment!

I cannot believe I didn't spot that red on his knee! Its from the handle of the hammer, I should have spotted that one right away. Oh well, it has been fixed now, thanks to you, this guy would probably have fielded like that otherwise haha I'm going to paint one of each of the termies shoulderpads yellow. You can probaly spot which ones because I haven't highlighted them at all, or on some not as much. The scouts shall remain unmarked for obvious reason, its enough that they are to be "stealthy" with their blue and white, yellow wont make it any better. I'll maybe try myself at freehanding something cool on them, if I get the craving for it.

For now however, I have pictures of what was promised last night! The only juice here are the EC and the terminator sergeant, I threw in a picture of a VERY WIP Assault marine just so you get a taste of how I'm going to paint the rest of them.

Its a shame that they are all WIP, but some are just around the corner of being finished and ready for the table!

C&C are always welcome!

If anyone would be willing to give me feedback I'm going to practice my freehand skills on the Templars, writing and logos and such.

I've written "Terminate"(it was supposed to be Terminatus or whatever the latin word was but I ran out of space..) on the chainsword the assault marine above is holding. I was thinking to maybe make killmarks on one, like streaks on the sword for every monster kill he's made. There will be freehanded Black Templar insignia's for sure, but excluding that I really have no idea what more to do. Maybe some skulls?

If you have any ideas please let me know!

Gretar!

Wonderful to see your wolves, I really like the glowing golden eyes. Haven't seen that before. I'll help you out as best I can. I'm not a great free-hander though. Most of my stuff is pretty formulaic (i.e. I figure out what works and repeat that as necessary).

To begin with... if you're going to start practicing free-hand, start with something simple. It'll help you learn the craft and build your confidence.

For lettering, you might look into "Micron" illustration pens. Much easier to work with than brushes (though with practice, you can get great results with a brush), and cheap too.

Well, the bright colours seem to be a bit thick and not giving a full coverage. My tip to get it got is to thin out the paints with water and use a brighter base. For white a blue colour is good! Personally when painting white I don't use a basecolour per say, instead I use the old space wolves grey!

The eyes and power weapons look ace though! And the minis ain't 100% done, am I right?

Looking really ice. The power weapons are great.
I agree with danesk, the paint seems a tad too thick. I researched for a long time before I started painting and I found that using a thinner (I have Vallejo thinner medium) works better that water because it maintains a better paint viscosity. As a beginner it's easier for me to paint with a thinner because even though the paint is thinned, it still reacts better - stays where I want it to stay and doesn't run all over the mini.

Hope that helps

Gitsplitta! I was thinking just the same with starting with something simple, for an example the Templar cross/chapter marking. I might have phrased the question a bit badly, but what I was asking for was exactly what you just suggested me, something simple to freehand. Only problem is that short of the cross and some very simple things like killmarks - they're just lines - I dont really know what to do. And if I think about it freehanding the same cross over and over and over again it would definitely give me a good control over the skill, but I honestly think I'd get either to bored or to frustrated of the repeated routine to continue for long. Thats kinda what happens when I paint models in general, I go nuts for a period of time with the brush and then I ease off and paint only a few models for a while until I go full-gas and so on and so forth.

I have had past experience with the micron pens, they're just a little to glossy for my liking so I prefer to practicing until perfection with a brush.

Thanks for the comment on the eyes! It was something that I wanted to try out, and I think it came out quite well. Needs to be fiddled with a bit, but once I get the technique down well enough it should look rather splendid. Looks brilliant at an arms length though.

Hello and thank you for your comment. It might well be that the colors look a tad thick but I don't think its because of my current paint but because of the layers that are underneath it. I had a lot of trouble stripping them, so much in fact that the paint barely came off and it left an overly thick layer of primer that had been sprayed on mostly covering the model, even after a couple of rounds in the tub.

And how funny is this, it just so happens that I actually use SW grey to base off my white too And the SW models that I have posted are finished, the BT are not(they are in the pictures below..) but these are simply test models to see how I'm actually going to paint the rest of the troops that I'll do for BT. And basically to learn from them on painting white and black armour plates.

I keep my paints thinned down in the pot, and use Winsor&Newton Acrylic Medium to give them a consistent flow once they are on my wet pallette. But like mentioned above, the thickness is most probably because of the stripping problems I had with the minis.

They have sought out therapy now though, and have stopped going to those nasty clubs.

Now, on to the next update!

I have finished two test models for the BT, a bolter wielding marine and the assault marine already pictured. The EC is still in the works, I'm not going to post a picture of him 'till he's finished. I also have a very blurry and over all bad picture of the first batch of assault marines that I'll paint in their first stages. I particularly like the way the bases came out and contrasted the rest of the models, I think I'll stick with these and possibly add some flocking.

Pictures for the EMPRAH!!

Any C&C are as always welcome! Now, back to the painting board!

Well, you might try some hazard stripes. White undercoat, yellow over that and then very precise black stripes. You can even "highlight" the stripes if you wish with lighter shades of yellow and grey. Very good practice for control and it'll give you something different to do aside from your crosses.

Thats actually not a bad idea, I'll probably interpret that into some of their chainswords and maybe the assault marines PF.

Hey guys, I've got some WIP progress on the assault marines, as well as some WIP pictures of more sidetracking models! Some IG model that I dont know the name of, another HQ or elite model(depends on what it counts as..) that neither of us has anything to do with. Along with that I have finished the EC as well as Wolf Lord Thyrnir. Pictures by daylight tomorrow!
