This is a rather nooby question I feel, but I can't find any faq or anything. Valthex counts as having 2 power weapons, but what type of power weapons are they?

Vanished Completely

You will find the answer to your question on page 61 of the basic rule book, but it doesn't seem to be the best answer for you here.

Taking a look at the model it doesn't seem to meet any of the criteria listed under the power weapon option, at least not outright. They are more like whips, or some sort of tendril, which is nothing described in the basic rule books. I, and this is just personal opinion, lean towards considering them power swords through process of elimination. They are not a maul, as they end in a sharp pointed end. They are not lances as they do not have a rigid staff. They are not axes, as they do not have a large head you would find on an axe. This only leaves power swords for while it isn't the best fit, the blade is on a whip it is the only thing that even remotely qualifies.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

If the model's weapons are unclear as to what they would be, it would be best to classify them as unusual. In which case they would simply be AP3.

Of the 4 types, a whip seems most like a sword to me. Which would be the same result as being unusual.
