Subject: Is it worth getting a PS Vita?

Hey,
I was looking at getting a PS Vita, mostly because there were a bunch of games I was interested in (the new Wipeout, Uncharted, Rayman, LBP) and because summer's coming up and I'm going to be doing quite a bit of travelling. I just wanted to know what Dakka thought of the console.
Thanks,
Blap

I'm planning on getting one... though I admit I'll mostly be playing PSP and PS1 games through it.

I'd always take the 3DS over a Vita :/

Same here.
But I did have a PSP and it served me very well for a long time. I really enjoyed it. And my friend has Vita and he says it's brilliant. So if you're into handheld, prefer Sony over Nintendo, and have the money for it plus think it's something that will come to use I'd say go for it.

I've got one, and it's great. I'd say yes.

I would say go for it especially if you can get one through a discount retailer or something. Plus Killzone Mercenary is coming out soon and it looks like it's definitely going to be one of the best hand-held games this year. As long as you like what you see for the library of games the Vita has so far I would say go for it.

Seems worth it to me. If I have to buy ps+ then I'm only getting half my money's worth if I don't have one. Plus the fact we only have one tv in my house. Prying the tv from my wife and daughter is difficult as it is. With the vita I'm supposedly able to stream it on the vita. Sounds win win for me at least.

Update: I've gotten one and have been blown away. It's pretty amazing. The one thing I would say is that memory is rather annoying on downloaded games. There's a bunch of games I want that are download exclusive, which means I'm saving up for another memory card.

How much memory does it come with? And what kind of card does it use?

No inbuilt memory installed. I got it all in a bundle. 8gb card. ( Link here.)
The big problem is that the cards are a unique format for the Vita, meaning they can charge loads for a relatively small level of storage. Where as a normal 32gb Micro SD card costs £17, for the same price you can get a very similar size Vita card at 8gb capacity. Of course, the pure games take up quite a bit of data, but even the small play-on-the-train games take up about 500mb to 1gb, so you either carry around a load of game cards (which can be quite pricey) or get a huge memory card (also pricey).
