Ok so I was wondering but does supporting fire require LOS to the overwatching unit that is the target of an assault?

Cheers to all comments

That way,then left

Supporting fire allows you to shoot at the charger.
To shoot you need LoS

An Overwatch Attack is resolved like a normal shooting attack uses all the rules for line of sight, range cover saves and so on. BRB p,21

Ok thanks

One more question: Does Supporting fire require you to be within range of the friendly unit that is being charged or does it require you to be within range of the enemy unit charging the friendly unit?

To be eligible for supporting fire, you need to be within 6" (iirc) of the friendly unit being charged.

To shoot, you need to have range against the enemy unit.

Horrifically unlikely, I know, but it can happen if the unit is stretched out in a line and only the nearest model is within 6"... that makes the whole unit eligible to fire, but some of the further models may be out of range.
More likely is that some models will be within rapid fire range with their pulse rifles as opposed to others...

Yes, and that's been answered. He doesn't need LoS to be eligible to fire the Overwatch, but he does need LoS to shoot. The distinction would only really be important when using weapons that don't require LoS, like Smart Missile Systems.
