Veteran Sergeant Haas's special rule always advance states 'while veteran sergeant haas is alive, he and his squad benefits from the relentless special rule'. If an independent character joins this squad, do they benefit from relentless also?

My query derives from the wording of 'squad' as it is stated 'One Tactical Squad in a Space Marine Army may replace its sergeant with veteran sergeant haas'.
Does the term 'squad' refer to the unit itself or the individual tactical squad?

No, Specials Rules only transfer to an IC if they say they do. Relentless does not.

The IC however "counts as part of the unit for all rules purposes" (page 39 BRB, Independant Characters).
Relentless would not be shared with the unit if only Haas had it, but Haas' rule says his entire squad has it too.

So the question is: Does "Unit" equate to "Squad" for the purposes of this rule?

{Edit} Particularly in the case of Combat Squads, does the whole squad get Relentless if Combat Squaded?
The FAQ's might contain an answer, what Codex is Haas in?

He isn't - he's a Forgeworld character. So yes you're correct so far - it all comes down to whether "squad" is equal to "unit".
As squad isn't defined in the core rules, for the time being you'll have to either agree with opponents or roll off for it. I'd suggest doing so before a game begins.

Fragile, please tell me where you got that from?

Quanar, Haas if from IA4.

Should I send forgeworld an email?
I though attaching Valthex to Haas's squad would be cool, relentless conversion beamer after all

He got that from page 39, Independent Characters, Special Rules section. So, as Super Ready and Quanar have said, it comes down to whether 'squad' equates to 'unit' or not.

IMO, Haas and the squad already have relentless whenever the IC joins, but that is HIWPI

Squad and unit are interchangeable. If Haas gives Relentless to his squad and an IC joins, the IC gets it as well.

If you combat squad, the 2 5 man squads are no longer the same unit, so the benefit only applies to Haas' squad.

Thanks, good to hear I was correct.
Rigeld2 is there anything to back up that 'squad and unit are interchangeable'?

Older IA books and codex will still refer to squads instead of units. Same meaning.

Page 3 "Forming a Unit"
"Units" - Warriors tend to band together to fight in squads, teams, sections or similarly named groups.

Just buy the Techmarine a bike instead of using an expensive special character to do the same thing.

I was going to use Haas anyway, and I don't want to run bikes.
