A quick aside -- randomness need not be silly. It's a big galaxy with all manner of gribbly life ... not just anthropomorphs with pointy ears or crinkled foreheads. When I run Basic D&D and its retroclones, for example, I don't use anything straight out of the Monster Manual or whatever. Players could just say "oh, it's a troll" if I'm reading out of a book. But if I'm not, they have this real fear of the unknown which is what monsters should be about. There's even a book to help GMs do this: The Random Esoteric Monster Generator. So I applaud FFG knowing (and ganking) a good idea when they see it.
