I have a buddy that is interested in getting back into Fantasy and he plans on playing Vampire Counts. I'm needing to make a 1000 pt list and really don't know where to start with the army list but I want to make it a rounded out army so he can see what they can do... We plan to substituent part of my empire forces until he can build his army.. Plus I don't want to build a list and subconsciously make it easy kill for my list. I have played previous editions of Warhammer but only one of the new edition, so point out any watch outs if one of the unit builds has something special about it.. (I just might miss it)

Hmmm, VCs don't work too well at that points level but here is how I would do it.

Master necromancer - 250
book of arkhan, ironcurse icon, lvl4 lore of vampire.

Vampire - 227
ogre blade, red fury, dragonhelm, heavy armour, shield, nightmare

40 skeletons - 255
hand weapons, full command, screaming banner

9 black knights - 264
barding, lances, full command

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Been out of fantasy for a while as it is dead in my area but.... I think you need 3 units for a legal army, solo heroes/lords out on their own does not count either. A terrorgheist or varghulf are pretty solid or just take a min unit of zombies or wolves

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Oh, you're right. Cut the black knights down to 5 or 6, toss in a spitit host or 2, maybe some min wolves or a pair of giant bats.

I played a 1,000 point game a couple weekends ago and my list looked something like this:

Master Necromancer - level 3

Zombies (20)
Zombies (20)
Dire Wolves (5)
Dire Wolves (5)
Dire Wolves (5)

Crypt Ghouls (6)
Spirit host

Terrorgheist

It's important to try and not go over the minimum core value, in this case 250, with Vampire Counts as well have really good special and rare choices and spending points over minimum core value is generally a waste for us.
