Hi Dakka!

Thought I may as well start a blog for this army as I work my way through it to get some input and suggestions from you guys.

Its an Imperial Fist army that I've decided to use the red and yellow of the 3rd company for its scheme. I'm sticking to the codex guidelines for the characters schemes, I'm also including a small Grey Knight alllied detatchment which I have finished a small part of.

I'm painting 2 days a week at the moment and I'll try keep the thread updated after each session.

I don't have the best camera and I'm hoping to build my own lightbox once I have most of the army done so I can get some better pics, at the moment these are the best I can do sorry!!

Anyway onto some pictures!

Included in this lot are the Chaplain, Librarian, Techmarine (still needs some transfers), Assault Terminators with Librarian, and lastly the Grey Knight Terminators/Paladins with Inquisitor Coteaz.

*pictures retaken see down the page*

The libby looks the epic.

You will have to do a batrep with some photos, so we can see them in action.

Lots of cool looking NMM weapons and that yellow looks very good.

I do have a small suggestion for the Libby: You did some OSL around his eyes, ok, always cool, but his eyes look normal. I would think his eyes would be fully blue and / or glowing with power to create that light around them.

Keep up the great work

I agree, I'm not very happy with the face at all actually. I have got some of the blue minitare tinting colours on the way which should allow me to do what you are talking about without much hassle, if not I'll do it with some brushwork.

I've also bought a photo booth from ebay (2 lights, 5 backdrops, the Lightbox and camera stand for $40!!) and been doing a load of reading on macro photography, so I'll repaint his face on the weekend and give an update. Hopefully the lightbox works well and I'll take some better pics of the whole army.

Pedro Kantor - The axe is from a BA Sanguinary Guard kit, it has lots of parts for making cool looking weapons for marines, along with the Grey Knight Terminator box. I'm planning on working on their wrist mounted infernus pistols to make combimeltas.

Update time!

So I spent a fair bit of time tonight putting transfers on my Tactical Marines, Devistators and Dreadnought. I also managed to airbrush a vindicator ready for some hand detailing, I did a black and bright yellow hazard pattern across the face of the siege shield.

Apart from that I didn't get much painting done... Might get some more in tomorrow morning. I'm keen to redo the librarians face so I can try out the minitare tints.

Part reason I did'n't get much painting done was my new lightbox turned up. I'm pretty sure its better than anything I could have made at home. It took 5 mins to setup and away I went taking some pics of my work.

I'm still not 100% happy with the photos but its much better than holding it under a ceiling light and taking snaps on my phone.

Here are the new pictures.

I've retaken the original images and also thrown in more close ups of my Terminator assault squad and a Rhino I have been working on, it still needs transfers and some of the lights painted but apart from that its close to done. There is also a few shots of my Dreadnought. Hope you enjoy!

Another update.

I spent a few hours today finish off my Vindicator, It's one of my fav space marine kits, Pretty much because of the siege shield and the dirty great big cannon on the front, whats not to love.

Really happy with the way she turned out in the end. I was afraid the yellow and black on the front would clash with an already yellow army but the different tone I used helped.

Any feedback would be great!

Also here is a quick taste of what I've got on the agenda for the next few paints sessions.

It also gives you a bit of a taste as to what my units look like directly after airbrushing.

2x Stormtalon (I glued one of their wing sets on wrong since they are different but I'm unsure which one is the correct way as I don't have the instructions haha)
5x Sniper Squad
1x Assault on Black Reach Captain.
10x Converted Sternguard Veterans (only 5 photographed here)
5x Devastator squad.
10x Tactical Marines (I think there are the old macragge ones)
1x Ageis Defence Line with Quad Gun (half way through detailing it at the moment)

Really nice desaturated yellow mate. They will be a fantastic and eye catching force when you finish.

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it!

I'm looking to add a couple of every unit to this army so I have all options open, should be a big project. I'm hoping if I start to burn out of painting them the new marine codex release should re-inspire me, and if we are lucky enough to get an Imperial Fist supplement it should re-inspire again.

I'm actually getting all the minis through trades and swap shop which is a new thing for me and it's kind of fun trying to find bargains. Some of the stuff is unpainted but others have previous paint jobs on them when I get the items (that vindicator was painted a metallic red before hand).

I'll put some more pics in this post, was going to wait until I have the bases completley done and the OSL on the plasma weapons etc.. but I can update on all that as I go. You'll get the general Idea of how they are going to look.

Here we have the start of my infantry component:

5 Devastators
5 Scouts (if anyone knows how to get transfers on these guys could you let me know, mine didnt seem to sit right no matter what I did so I took them back off.)
Tactical Squad A (3 photos)
Tactical Squad B.

Looking good. I wanted to do 3rd company to begin with because the red looks outstanding, but I decided to go with 8th company, the assault company, because I'm doing a bike army.
