I have a friend who is insisting it can't be done but if that is anywhere in the rules I am missing it.

This is for normal codex marines, btw, though I imagine the answer would be the same for any army.

Edit: And just to be clear, I mean 2 of the same named character, like fielding two Shrikes. No idea why anybody would. That question is more theoretical than practical.

unfortunately i have a inkling at the back of my mind that says you cant and that i think the page is at the front of the armoury in the codex (unsure which page) and by multiple do you mean for example 2 Marneus Calgars? i think if you look under chapter master entry it says that this army cannot contain more than one chapter master, some named HQ's are not chapter masters but captains (and you can rename them in the play it your way bit) meaning you can have both (for example Lysander and shrike) but not a chapter master and say Pedro Kantor or 2 Marneus Calgars. This is what i believe if i am wrong please some1 point me out before i lead this poor lad astray! lol

Careful I have CDO it’s like OCD but in alphabetical order LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

That way,then left

Special characters are unique and may only be taken once.
"Generic" characters (DIY) don't have a limitation, so nothing prevents you from playing 2 chapter masters (as stupid as it seems)

i think chapter masters are a exeption (dont think GW want that Plot hole slipping through there net) in the SM codex it does say only 1 chapter master can be included in the army list (unsure hove double FOC would work with it)

I can't find that in the current book, neither on the chapter master army entry or "fluff page". I think that was in the 3rd ed book, but as it stands, there is nothing that prevents you from having 2 chapter masters.

Plus, the honour guard entry states "you may include 1 honour guard squad for each chapter master in your army", implying that it is possible to have more than 1.
