Hey guys,

I've been collecting 40k for quite a while now, I just buy what I like the look of and paint them.
Recently I've decided I might as well start playing the game, could you guys please give me some assistance in creating a 1500pts list?

Here are the models I currently have:

Daemon Prince
CSM x15
Plague Marines x7
Khorne Berserkers x8
Possessed x5
Rhino x2
Obliterators x3
Defiler

I haven't got a whole list planned myself, due to having no gaming experience.
Here is what I have so far:

DP: Wings,MoN,Warptime
Plague Marines: Champ(Power sword),2x Melta, Rhino
Khorne Berserkers: Champ(Power sword), Rhino
Defiler
Oblits x3

I don't really know what to do with my CSMs?
Also, Possessed seem a bit.. meh

As an added bonus to help create 1500pts, I can spend around £50-£100 to get the job done.
So 'spend' that on units for the list if you like.

Let me know what list you would create with the units provided and ~£50 worth.

Cheers!

Do you have at least a general idea on how you'd like to play? A full assault attacking army, a shooting army, something more balanced?

Plague Marines are wonderful for defending objectives, so in my opinion it is a bit of a waste if you take them as Elites.
The same is true for the Berserkers, if they happen to wipe a unit defending an objective on the last turn (or the one before the last) as Elites, you just contested the objective. If they do that as Troops.. that's +3 points for you and -3 for the opponent. That could easily win the game by itself. This means that if you want to field them, a Lord with MoN or MoK would be a very good idea. Give a Lord a Mark and a Lightning Claw/Power Sword and he'll be a good killing machine for 90 points only, so it's also point effective. And there's plenty of items to make him even more scary.

Chaos Space Marines are good to create "cheap" blobs that can be infiltrated by Huron. If you don't like Huron, then the best idea is to convert them in one of the four cult troops (Thousand Sons, Plague Marins, Noise Marines or Berserkers). Which one to choose strictly depends on your personal preference or your preferred style of play

PS: Heldrake are generally considered an highly competitive unit, I don't recall their price in pounds, but I believe you can afford 2 of them with £100. A pair of Helldrakes is surely a threat to be dealt by opponent, as the only thing that won't utterly die against them is AV 14 or TEQ units, either of which are not usually found in huge numbers, because of their high cost.
Otherwise it should be quite easy and cheap to convert 15 CSM into 15 Noise Marines, their Blastmaster is IMHO the best ranged weapon available to Chaos Marines. However I suggest you to think about how you'd like to play, then build an army around that idea.

Well, your CSMs are your troops. Right now, you don't have any "troops" - only "Elites". So you need to form at least two troop squads. I suggest 1x 5 CSM and 1x 10 CSM using what you have available already.

At 1500 points, I agree that a Heldrake would be a good, competitive option. I also think you should consider a deep striking unit such as Terminators or Raptors. Maybe one additional HQ as well, Lords and Sorcerers are fairly cheap, points-wise.

Thanks for the advice guys,

I'll do a bit of thinking/research.

=)

e/ Just to clarify, with the CSMs; I meant I don't know what to give them. Champion or not? Weapons? etc

What i would do is buy a Chaos Lord. make him either khorne or nurgle dependin on your play style. then take a group CSM as your second troop choice. a helldrake is really handy to help against flyin stuff or bunkered down marines.

I play my CSM or a tzeentch/slaneesh mix rocking lots of cultists lol :p

You definitely want to pick up some heldrakes. They are arguably the best unit in the game point for point

Do you own the new codex? I get the feeling you dont or have not read it fully.

I don't currently own the new codex or rulebook. I'll be purchasing them this weekend.

I'd like a fairly balanced army, perhaps slightly closer to being assault than 'shooty'.
Favourite gods are Khorne and Nurgle.

What about if I sell my Defiler and Obliterators and purchase 2 Heldrakes?
That would be a good choice right?

I wouldn't sell the Obliterators, they can be quite useful thanks to their versatility.
For what regards the Defiler.. I don't like it very much, but once that you already have it selling it may be a waste, especially if you think that the model looks cool.

Makes sense about the Oblits, I just don't like the look of them very much.

I do like the look of the Defiler, but I got him very cheap at a garage sale. I could sell him for ~$20 profit on ebay.

I'd keep the Defiler. It doesn't matter that it got hit with a nerf bat, personally I find it a brilliant unit which always gets its money back. (Seeing as people seem to ignore the crawling battle cannon) that people tend to pass it off as a dud.

ya i'm on board with the defiler too. 4 HP, it never dies and armour 12 can be oddly tough to kill and hilarious sometimes

Okay, Pin Head stays... for now.

Would anyone mind creating a quick list as a rough idea?

I'd like it to include DP, CSMs, Plagues, Zerkers + Deffy

=)
