I am due to be playing a game against a mate who plays SW in a couple of days time and I am not sure if either of my lists will be any good so I am looking for some assistance with them.

Option A;

HQ
Captain with Melta bombs, Jump Pack, Lightning Claw and Power Fist (165pts)
Librarian with Terminator Armour (has The Sanguine Sword and The Might of Heroes) 125pts

Elites
2 Sanguinary Priests with Jump packs (160pts)
5-man Terminator Assault Squad with TH/SS (225pts)

Troops
2 Assault Squads (235pts each)
Each with 10 men 2 x Meltaguns, Sergeant has Bolt Pistol and Power Fist

Fast Attack (150pts)
3x Attack Bikes with Multimeltas

Heavy Support (200pts)
Stormraven Gunship Twin Linked Assault Cannon, Twin Linked Multi Melta

Option B;

HQ

I like option B much better. You have no need of a Stormraven vs Space Wolves. You must win out in shooting, because you can't beat him in HTH.

I would go with list 2 but drop the bikes and vindicator and add the stormraven put the termies in the gunship put a 10 man assualt squad w/o jump packs with the priest in the raider with a cheap captain.

5.assualt and destroy armies

If you have more LR, maybe use those. SW can't really deal with AV 14 well, so that would be good.

You want to avoid HTH with the Space Wolves, not rush into it. Keep the bikes and vindicator. Don't bring a Stormraven. Pump fire into his squads starting with long fangs. Cripple them, then start crippling his squads of grey hunters. Only THEN do you assault them.

You would have to be careful how you use an Ares LR. It's set up for assault, which you want to avoid with the Wolves. If you have enough firepower in other places to get rid of the Long Fangs, before you bring the Ares in, then it should be fine.

But a LR is such a big points investment that you can hardly afford to lose it at 1500.

Against such a close-combat optimized army, I would put a lot of points into pie plates and Heavy 4 weapons. Even though the LR is shiny, it has to play the Space Wolve's game, to be effective.

Personally, I think an Ares Land Raider would be a good fit for a Space Wolves army. But not so good for playing against them....

Yes good point, the Ares is just over the price of two Vindicators.

Maybe swap the bikes out for a maximum-dakka Baal instead?

I have a bit of a thing about armour thanks to my other army being guard so I tend to end up with a fairly IG style list for BA as well!
