hey i am new player at Warhammer 40k and have just bought the dark vengeance set and was wondering is there a certain way to paint them? (or just follow the pictures on the box and in the rule book.

Paint the chaos forces however you want, because they're random like that, but the dark angels should probably be painted like the box. Or you could just paint them any other color and call them a successor chapter or something

Miniwargaming have tutorials on the Dark Vengeance models on their channel using the default colour scheme.

I also watch buypainted as I find his tutorials fantastic.

No one cares about what colours you use; as long as you at least tried to make them look well then even tournaments will let you play (and for friendly games at your local store people usually don't care but there's also TFGs around).

As long as your models are unified, you can paint them any colour you want! It would be confusing if your marines were each a different colour though.
