Ted Terranova, the man behind the successful kickstarter Rivet Wars, joins us in the third chair!

First we tie Ted down and ask him the tough questions: What games got him started? How did he get into the industry? And why the heck are rivets at war?

Later we talk in great detail about the new Bioshock: Infinite board game from Plaid Hat games. In this detailed review we cover components, how it plays, and what makes it a compelling "dudes on a map" game.

All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:

- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- The Hollywood Minute
- News
- & More

Great show as usual. The Rivet Wars interview was great and a nice look into not only an interesting game, but the phenomenon of Kickstarter too.

I skipped over the Total Fan Girl segment as I'm on the fence about seeing Pacific Rim and did not want to have anything spoiled. Can you give a spoiler-free summary of your and Nicole's thoughts, Russ?

Also, when you guys mentioned Arcane Legions, I was wondering if you ever considered a segment were you revisit games you've reviewed and talk about how they've either succeeded or bombed in the years following your reviews and why. I thought it would be a nice way to get people to revisit the back catalog.

Yes they do! We now have three great retailers who support the show: Myriad Games, The War Store, and Miniature Market.

They've actually done a couple segments like that in the past. One was called like survival of the funnest (why certain games become the new 'go to' game over other similar games we own) and they did it again, but with a slightly different slant on it (I think more just going back and revisiting some of the older games they'd reviewed previously and still seeing what they thought about them).

As for Pacific Rim, Nicole really liked it and Russ REALLY liked it.

I agree with them, any geek who grew up loving any anime featuring large robots (Voltron, Robotech, etc) or Godzilla movies will just LOVE this movie.

With that said, I had heard a TON of great press going into it, so as always almost nothing can live up to amazing expectations, so I did end up feeling not completely blown away because of that (which is really unfair to the movie, I think in hindsight).

Its not perfect, but its just pretty damn bad-ass!

Just a couple of thoughts on the last podcast:

The lack of focus on mechanics for Rivet Wars is worrying. The idea that you can chuck extra players in and the game just 'works' seems unlikely. Also, though he comes across like a good guy with an obvious passion for the project - he also comes across as a model designer first. Adding extra models because 'the kickstarter demanded it' isn't a good way to ensure any sort of game balance..

Colour me skeptical...

On a brighter note: I loved the song at the end! Where can I find that cover version?

Just wanted to say the Ross interview was great. I'd love for him to come back on for the full review of the Shadowrun products he worked on once they are fully released.

I remember many a weekend full of pizza and mountain dew running around the Seattle Sprawl back in the day.

Thanks, guys!

What Yak said, although, probably as a result of your very post, bbb, the next Lost Chapter is a continuation on that very theme, and we cover . . . I think it was episodes 18 through nearly 60 . . . ? I forget, but it's a lot of reviewed games!

As for Pacific Rim, I think Yak is exactly right in all regards. I was so worried as the lights came up at the end over what it didn't do, I think I missed all the cool things it DID do, and in retrospect, I'm going to see it again tonight. However, I would also suggestion NOT seeing it in IMAX 3D, or even 3D, unless you're a HUGE 3D fan . . .

Ross is great, as always, and I'm not sure we can avoid having him, or someone else deeply involved in the project, when Shadowrun gets into its full swing . . .

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

Cool. I was thinking you could call the segment "The/A Bomb" as in either a game was "The Bomb" as in good, or "A Bomb" as in a disaster. It's silly I know, but I haven't slept a lot recently.
