Hey,
I'm a Space Wolves player and I'm trying to finally get into Tau or Eldar or both and I was hoping I could get some feedback on whats happened as far as what seems to be working and whats not, being as i was in Basic for the past 2 months.
thank you!

If you like shooting and the look of the tau forces then the tau are the way to go. They are a lot of fun to play with some really nice new units. So far from what I have seen not much in the tau codex I wouldn't use. As for the Eldar don't know, so I can't help you there. I do hear that they are good as allies with the tau and overall it looks like they got a good update. Though it is your choice on what you do.

Right now Tau armies will consist of the following units:

- Firewarriors
- Riptides or Crisis suits
- Pathfinders
- Broadsides (with missiles)

All the other units you may see thrown in every once in a while, but if you don't like the above units then don't bother with Tau. Also it is hard to make a viable mech list with Tau as devilfish are quite expensive to field and results are often mixed.

The main difference between Tau and Eldar is that the Eldar are quite fast/maneuverable and their vehicles are quite good.

I've seen quite a split between the types of units used. The Tau were usually either gunlines or mech/suit heavy where as Eldar have much more successful variations.

- Mech heavy armies with walkers, wave serpents, fireprisms
- Jetbike armies
- Wraith armies with wraith guards, lords, knights, seers

You could always combine the two armies, but for someone just starting to collect them, I'd pick one for now.

The wraith army actually seems like something a SW player would like, my old man plays wolves and I play tau, I can help with that part.

We really aren't so mobile anymore, after the codex update. Suits are our only good fast hitters. What the other people have said about the units that work is definitely true. But, on the other hand, plenty of the old ones still work. Railsides or Hammerheads are still good for their points, especially with Longstrike. We don't have to twin link our suits any more, deathrain is now more ridiculous than it was before.

I think you might have new model fever haha

But in all seriousness those two armies are pretty good right now.
I like Tau (because thats what I have) but wanted Eldar for a while before I even knew about the new dex.

Tau are lay back and fire off a bunch of weapons which in my opinion is how 40k should work.
Why would an army even go into close combat like wtf?

But Eldar are pretty cool I really like the walkers and the jetbikes but don't know much else.

My vote is for Tau

I know nothing about the new Eldar other than the Wraithknight isnt that great for its cost (or so i am constantly hearing). However i do have tau, and i can say the earlier post was spot on when its always

Firewarriors
Pathfinders
Riptides and/or Crisis Teams
Broadsides with Missiles
And drones obviously (marker or gun) but those are a given.

I would add on Hammerheads though. While not mandatory by any means, theyre still very viable against most lists. Railheads not so much as except for IG gun lines the railhead's purpose seems...too expensive to me. Ionheads on the other hand are fething SWEET i love these things. Wound on 2s against just about everything and pens power armor whether theyre overcharging (shooting a pi plate) or shooting normal (3 S7 AP3 shots) and have near-table range.
But these can be left out if you fear vehicles will melt in your meta. Theyre more for an alternate flavor that actually works, but might not be optimal. They do, after all, lack anti air (and i refuse to bring skyrays, too pricy for a one-trick-pony in my books)

Tau tactics resolve heavily around outgunning and maneuvering your opponent. They are very powerful but a simple mistake can cost you the game...sort of a high risk high reward but that risk is more on you knowing wth you are doing rather than hoping that one die throw doesnt fail. Even the Farsight Bomb i would say is far from a "I play Tau, i win" level of strong.
