Hey everyone! I'm new to 40k and have decided to play Eldar, I figured I should ask if this list would be effective in a 500 point game. I'm going to be playing in a league, and here are the rules:

- 1 HQ and 1 Troop required
- 1 More Troop choice available
- 1 More choice available for all other categories
- T capped at 7
- Armour capped at 10
- No Flyers

Right now I'm thinking about a list that looks like this:

- Autarch w/ banshee mask and avenger shuriken catapult and scorpion chainsword (83 points)
- 7 Dire Avengers w/ one being an Exarch (101 points)
- 7 Dire Avengers w/ one being an Exarch (101 points)
- 6 Swooping Hawks w/ one being an Exarch w/ a sunrifle (124 points)
- 1 War Walker w/ a scatter laser and an eldar missile launcher and spirit stones (90 points)

Total: 499 points

Given the restrictions for the league, are there any changes you recommend? Keep in mind that since I'm new to the game, I have no idea how Psychic powers work and want to wait a while before trying to add a Farseer or something similar.

Thanks in advanced!

(100) Farseer
(70) 2 Warlocks [split in guardian squads]
(100) Guardians w/ Star Cannon
(100) Guardians w/ Star Cannon
(60) War Walker
(70) Vyper- tl Scatter Laser, Extra Shuriken Cannon

This is pretty much the best you are going to do with the restrictions at hand. Psychic powers are really easy, and an important part of the Eldar Codex. 500 point games is a great time to learn how they work because there is a lot less going on.

Basically you roll on a table, and can always choose to trade for the primarus power. Blessings / Maledictions are rolled before movement phase, shooting attacks are rolled during the shooting phase. All you have to do to cast is pass a leadership test.

The list is pretty simple, Warlocks split off and join the guardian squads, casting conceal on them to maximize their durability. Farseer casts whatever powers he has rolled up, just going for Primaris Powers might even be smart.

Starcannons kill terminators Warwalker and Vyper give added s6 longer range fire support. Make liberal use of re-roll psychic powers, and basically shoot your opponent off the board. Remember to shoot with guardians then battle focus away when things get close! Warwalker should be shooting then battle focusing out of line of sight if possible.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

At low points, it's very important to maximize bodies on the table, and minimize upgrades. The DA Exarchs are a good example of this, as is some of the other wargear.

I like this idea:

HQ: Farseer on a Jetbike with the Mantle of the Laughing God and a Singing Spear 160
TR: 10 Dire Avengers 117
TR: 10 Dire Avengers 117
FA: 5 Warp Spiders 95

11 point under, so I guess the Farseer gets Runes of Warding.

You could drop the Mantle for more bodies, but it makes the Farseer invulnerable to most shooting.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

With those rules, shuiken spam should be pretty deadly. AV ten means youll glance any vehicles, and with blade storm, you'll kill termies to.

HQ
Auyarch. (would recommend spirit sear, but if you don't want to try them powers then stick with the aitarch.) Either way 70 pts

10 dire avengers 130
10 dire avengers 130
15 guardians, 1 warlock. 170

26 models in five hundred points, each with :rending: and can and will glance vehicles to death... I like it.

He can only take 2 troops max... so that won't work. (The old 1HQ / 2 Troops requirement isn't being used - it's 1HQ / 1 Toops required; 1 of all slots optional extras)

I would take:
Spirit Seer
2 Guardian squads

and then fill out with either a vyper or 2 or some spiders.

Pity about T7 being the max - no Wraithlord :(

So far the effectiveness of 10 Wraithblades with Ghost Axes:
Tanked 2 Leman Russ squadrons (including the battle cannons and the triple plasma variant); whilst also getting wailed on by everything imaginable in a Fortress of Redemption. Only to get into CC with the tanks and open them up.
2000 points worth of Necrons with Forgeworld additions. Got into CC with a court of Lords and opened them up.
Killed a GUO.
Killed Angrath the Gargantuan Bloodthirster in an Apoc game (with the help of Iranna the Spirit Seer).
Ate a Hammerhead, pathfinders and scored after 3 turns of walking towards a 2000 point Tau gunline and overwatch!
And counting............

Yo,

Akaean's list is not bad but I have a few changes which I think it will make it better (and his guardians' points were a bit off).

Mr. Economic's Farseer with mantle is way too expensive and really not needed.

Syranas' spiritseer is not as useful as a farseer in this set-up.

100: Farseer
40: Warlock with singing spear
220: 20 Guardians with two starcannons
60: Vyper with two shuriken cannons
70: War Walker with scatter laser and starcannon

This leaves 10 points left, I would recommend ghostwalk matrix on the war walker so he can stay in cover all the time. This set-up gives 36 twin-linked shuriken catapult shots, 6 twin-linked starcannon shots, 6 twin-linked shuriken cannon shots, a scatter laser and a singing spear. Very nice. Can take down both the largest of infantry mobs and specialist armoured infantry/vehicles, all under some great cover saves. I'm only worried about large blast, but I don't think that'll be an issue at 500 points.

I would just spread the guardians out in a line or circle. It turns 20 hits into 3 or 4.

I plan on running something similar at 750, but with a dark reaper squad as well. I might recommend prescience+guide as you can give one to the spiders and one to the DAs. Make every shot count at low point levels!!!

The Farseer doesn't need the jetbike and mantle, he can stay with some avengers and that's enough.

Btw that's 9 avengers, 117 points. I would personally make it look like this:

100: Farseer
130: 10 Dire Avengers
130: 10 Dire Avengers
70: War Walker with scatter laser and starcannon
70: War Walker with scatter laser and starcannon

Very strong! Practically everything you're firing is twin-linked.

Ok here's a list I would take:

Farseer
10 dire avengers
5 dire avengers
3 war walkers w/ scatter laser and star canon

In this list everything can hurt vehicles, you have good choices to deal with terminators and your farseer has a good protection unit with the larger dire avengers squad (you could tweak it so the troops are spread out more evenly.

I usually take guardians in wave serpents but since you cannot do this the 18" range of the avengers is a smarter choice.

When rolling for your psychic powers roll two dice in the eldar codex powers and one in divination so you get prescience and guide plus a mind war, fortune or doom. Rerolling shots, armor saves or to assassinate an enemy hq could really change the game for you!

Against horde you have 30 s4, 18 s6 shots that can be twinlinked which SHOULD suffice.

Ah almost forgot, downgrade one starcanon to a shuriken canon on the walkers to make it 500 points exactly.

How about:

Farseer: Spear 105
Warlock: Spear 40

20 Guardians 2 Starcannons 220

7 Warp Spiders 133

Big unit with conceal. Everything twin linked.

36 S4 rending
14 S7 rending
4 S6 AP2
2 S9

The main issue is only 2 targets. But you'll kill 2 units a turn almost guaranteed and that guardian unit is pretty tough.

Or utilising mobility

Farseer: bike, Spear 120

6 Wind Riders: 2 Cannons 122

6 Warp Spiders 114

2 War walkers: SL+SC 140
