So I bought a Necron overlord, the one with the war scythe swinging wide and such. I went through several blisters at the store looking for a one that wasnt as damaged. Take it home and the model has quite a bit of bubbles and air holes. Fine I'll green stuff the holes and file down the bubbles. Look at his staff and lo and behold it's crooked. Oooook I'll reheat and reshape. Today I take him out and accidentally drop him literally 2 inches off the table top and he snaps his goddamn staff at the top like it was made out of paper. I tried pinning it and the pin also snapped off inside the staff. My question is how in the world am I supposed to fix his broken staff. I cant pin because our snapped off inside and I can't get it out and regluing will just make it snap of again. Any suggestions to deliver me from this hell.

Replace the staff with a steel or brass wire. Recover the detail parts of the staff (head/pommenl/etc), drill the right size aperture in the bits and stick them on the new staff.
You can then add any lost or extra detail or texture to the staff with green stuff.
This is basically how lead/plastic spears are replaced on historical models.

Any replacement will fall victim to the same issues of poor casting and a weak material though.
The material itself isnt very good full stop. GW cant fix that without changing to another one.
I only got 1 finecast figure ever... and was less than impressed by it. Even without considering the obscene price point for such a shoddy product. Id take it back and ask for refunds tbh.

And keep getting a replacement until you get a good cast. This will do two things:
1) Get you a legit model and a bunch of extra bits
2) Show GW the impact of poor casting (i.e. lots of replacements)

What is GW's replacement policy btw? Do they just send ya a new one or do you have to send the old one in?

Usually you can swap it out at a GW retail store, or just call and tell them what is going on and they will send you a replacement, I've never had to send anything back.

Tbh I've never had any issues with finecast. I have quite a few minis in this material too, 14 in total. Have I just been insanely lucky.

@tgtony - I'm afraid replacing the scythe haft with rod seems to be the best idea, my experience with finecast is that it doesn't particularly like glue - leastways not the stuff I use :(
@tomcat31You must have been lucky! I'm on the fence about finecast - as a Space Marine modeler I love the look of the Stern- and Vanguard Veteran sets, but, in the course of converting a Captain I opted to by some finecast upgrade bits off Ebay, a combi-flamer and a heavy flamer. Now whilst there wasn't any visible flaws with the bits themselves (I guess it was me who was lucky there!), I thought the sculpting itself was poor. The proportions of the so called combi-flamer (which was essentially just standard bolter with a tiny little box and nozzle on top - not in any way as substantial as I was hoping) was very thin and angular - not at all like the chunky bolters that are supplied in the plastic sets. The Heavy flamer was marginally better, but is dwarfed by the heavy flamers of Land speeders, Dreadnoughts and Terminators - so not really a 'heavy' flamer at all! I can only thank God (or my common sense) that I only purchased these two bits off Ebay and didn't get the whole Sternguard upgrade set from GW - I would have been very disappointed if I had.

I felt the same. But then my Doom of Malantai sat on the back shelf of the car for a coupla days, not hugely hot ones.
Now he has his head cocked to one side, all pensive and wistful, like a pre-raphaelite lady, when he should really look all energised and terrifying.

Surface temperatures and those in enclosed spaces can double that of air temperarure, so the back shelf of a car could get very hot - much like the steering wheel of my car yesterday. Ouch!
I've also had only good finecast models (6) and think its okay except for thin weapons but I've had similar problems with. Plastic ones too so ymmv?
Finally whoever had problems with FC and glue, just use a standard superglue. One of the major benefits of the Fc material is that it works so well with it..that said dont use GW superglue (which is poor and too dear), but a decent Loctite gel one. A few quid spent on good glue is rarely wasted I find.

Notprops advice is pretty good, it's very unfortunate that you have to do that in the first place though.

This did make me laugh, the description is brilliant.
I've only recently come back to GW minis because I enjoy painting. My first mistake was purchasing a fine cast Ogre Lords Gorger.. The general detail was okay but there were so many air holes and bubbles it looked like Nurgle had blessed it's feet. I'm not sure how long they've been producing these over the original metal as I'm a relative newb but hopefully they'll improve the casting soon.
I will give my next purchase a better inspection and spend more time cleaning the model :(
(This admittedly was only one model and it might have just been poor luck)

Finecast was the last straw for me. Even though models were already ridiculously overpriced, I didn't want to buy fakes because I respected GW and was paying for the craftsmanship. However, with finecast I wasn't paying for craftsmanship because everything was horribly mangled by this cheap resin and they charged more for it. Now I pay a quarter of a price for models from the mainland, which are made from a better resin.
