Hey guys

Summation: Need a new pressure regulator that is adjustable - having trouble making sure I order the one with correct size connector (Compressor connector is specified at 1/8) - what should I be looking at?

Basically I bought this off a recommendation from someone I work with: http://www.kmsdirect.co.uk/magento/index.php/kms-airbrush-kit-as18-with-compressor-and-2-x-double-action-airbrushes-and-hose
I bought it from amazon and in the description it said it had an adjustable pressure range of 0-4 Bar. I thought great I did some checking and looked it over and ordered it. Spent about a week banging my head about how to adjust the pressure. long story short, you can't. So with a pressure of roughly 40+ PSI I am pretty much limited to priming and undercoating.

I want to get a new regulator that is adjustable, but am having a hard time getting my head around the connector sizing. The compressor specification states that its 1/8" out. So I want simply a 1/8" regulator? Ive looked all over amazon and any 1/8" I find are all like 10 bar... or just plain expensive. I am just starting out airbrushing and I just want to get myself into it without spending another £50 on a regulator. Any help with connector sizing would be truely appreciated.

These are the sorts ive looked at:
  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/Regulator-Ports-Spray-system-compressor/dp/B00B82RVGU/ref=sr_1_9?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1374232189&sr=1-9&keywords=1%2F8+regulator - Which has no product or technical description/data....

  • But none of these have a moisture trap either (which I assume I want), so I could just put them inline before my current moisture trap and guage?

    A sad airbrusher

EDIT: - At current following some more research, I think my best bet is to buy a 1/4" adjustable regulator with moist trap, as its about 1/3 the price of an 1/8" one and then get two connectors that go 1/8 to 1/4.

Try this one, but a call to RDG should garnish you with all the technical information you need to ensure compatibility.

note: most of these cheap airbrush/compressor kits have the same equipment in them no matter what the retailers brand them as. I have the exact same regulator on my tanked compressor so am assume that this is the same - as I say best check with the retailer.

I know this sounds silly, but did you read the operation instructions that came with the compressor?

Most Chinese knock-off airbrush/compressor kits* don't really come with any instructions so you have to ask if you don't know to crack on any way.

Mine (which I got from the link I posted as I know and respect the company) came with an exploded assembly diagram and very little else. This wasn't a problem for me as it is quite simple tech for assembly and much like airbrushing technique was a case of trial and error. Fortunately I did copious amounts of research prior to getting it (mostly on the source of this type of kit)

    * Probably a bit harsh but what do you expect but unbranded copies for less than £90-100 - eye-wide-open and all that. Fenghua Tiandi Airbrush Manufacture Co., Ltd.

I was under no illusions I knew what I was buying. The description was simply misleading in whether it actually had an adjustable pressure regulator. I wasn't about to go blasting 2-3 hundred quid decking myself out only to find I wasn't that interested.
Plus im also impatient, still living at home, first years into full time job and am having slightly more cash then sense when it comes to art supplies...
And i did read the manual... the whole 3 A5 pages of it... with its lovely pictures drawn by a 5 year old with an etchasketch

But yeh looking forward to having more control of pressure and experimenting Plus its also nice to have a cheap brush considering how bad i am at mixing the paints atm (especially when using acrylics I normally use on canvas ) Now just seeing about a more mid-range brush I could move onto once Im happy with the basics.

but thanks again Notprop my reg is working its way into the post as we speak..... God damn non weekend deliveries!

    No probs.

I was in the same boat a few years ago and figured a cheapo Chinese one would be as good for learning as any "quality" brand (we Brits don't have the same access to cheap kit that out American chums have) then progress to a brand AB. 2-3 years later I'm still using the Chinese stuff and don't feel the need to upgrade (not good enough to notice ).

Glad to have been of help mate.
