Kicking around the idea of starting a new 40k army to mix things up from my orks...here are the candidates:
White Scars:
+Mongols. In. Space.
+I like the bike models
+Very mobile army bit of a change to my usual play style
+As a 40k player, probably should own at least one space marine army
+New SM codex anticipated soon
- Everyone plays space marines
- Bikes aren't that cheap--BUT with Ravenwing and Dark Vengeance, maybe getting most of them won't be as bad as I think?
- Painting white seems simple, but probably isn't
- Some SM models I really like don't fit the theme very well (Vindicator, various Dreads, though Predator is probably totally fine)
World Eaters:
+Blood for the Blood God!
+All the good SM models are here, but with more skulls and spikes, so they are therefore BETTER
+Probably the most heavy metal army. If Deathklok played 40k, they'd play Khorne.
+Almost certainly fulfills my social obligation to have at least one MEQ army
-A lot of the Chaos models I like are actually rubbish in game (Berzerkers--I seem to recall them being troops?)--the Wisdom of the Internet seems down on Khornate themes in general, which probably makes the lord of skulls shed a bright, red-colored tear
-An assault army in a shooty world. Don't care about being super-competitive, but don't want to die every game, either.
Imperial Guard
+I love feel of being a 'regular army' (more or less) in 40k's universe
+Love almost all the IG models, from the tanks to the diverse infantry available
+Great army for customization/conversions
+Pie plates taste great and are surprisingly nutritious
-After orks (and WHFB), do I really want to do another high model count army?
-After orks, do I really want to do another "bucket of dice" army? (as awesome as it is!)
-Most of the models are easy to work in to another army (SM allies, CSM traitor guard, Orks looting stuff)
-Gunlines are boring
-Seem to have a reputation (fairly or not) as a power-gamey army
Eldar
+COMPLETELY different everything from my orks--play style, aesthetics, etc.
+Psychic powers are new for me
+Phoenix Lord Karandras
+Brand-spanking new codex
-Very fragile units, doesn't really fit me. I would like to have a few Wraith units, but for some reason a whole Wraith army doesn't do it for me
-Space elves
-This is a small thing, but I feel really dumb starting this army now that Dire Avengers have basically doubled in price
Moar Orks
+I still love the models, and the way they play
+IMO, the best army in the game for kitbashing/conversions--I find myself wanting to build certain things, but then I wonder when I'll ever have the chance to play them.
+More dakka is always needed
+Still possible to try different types of ork lists (and I already have all the paints/codex/etc. I need)
+I LIKE BS2. And 6+ saves. And ESPECIALLY open-topped.
-Maybe time for a change in this shootier edition we now live in
I await your wisdom and experience!

Eldar. You will not regret it. And i agree about DA's they suck now. Some people still use them, but guardians are the wave of the future. get 2-3 serpents 20-30 guardians. 6-9 Jet bikes, 10-20 warp spiders and 4-6 Walkers and you're golden.
BE WARNED: YOU WILL LOSE A LOT AT FIRST!
This okay and natural...like puberty, but then you will start to be even with people, then eventually you will literally crush any army that you are familiar with and know what they are capable of. This is because eldar play like an assasin's dagger not a great sword. You aren't going to be blowing up everything at once. You surgically remove the threats to you, and winning (first priority is manticores/blasts/stuff that kills you dead no matter what, second is then troops, becuase of jetbikes you will win pretty much every objectives game) is not just smashing face like daemons or marines. You devour piece by piece the enemy. You might not be able to take as big of a chunk at one time, but you will demolish in one turn the chunk you do take. also mobility allows you to pick and choose what you want to eliminate first.

Sadly for Khorne, other than the infamous Juggerlord, the current Dex makes Khorne very, very sad. Zerkers, like Lictors, just get worse every edition. (Therefore next Codex a Bezerker will cost more than a terminator and will be clubbed to death by Guardsmen and firewarriors ) The inability to assault out of METAL BAWKSES save for Land Raiders adds insult to injury. As a further insult you have to buy your chainaxes now...what the hell kelly?
6e is really just not Khorne's day, although Flesh Hounds are great and Bloodthirsters are pretty nice. Bloodletters though, are mediocre and die like guardsmen to shooting (goodbye T4 :( ), Bloodcrushers were hit with the hammer of nerfing so hard they broke through the floor, their durability in the form of T5 3+ 3 wounds now being downgraded to T4 6+(!?!) and 3 wounds, and I think they actually cost more now. Daemon Princes of Khorne are garbage and I recommend you avoid them, psychic powers can make or break a Daemon Prince and a Khornate one gets none.
Orks and the Guard are both aging codices, but both have aged remarkably well. While the current guard list is something to the tune of
HQ blob
HQ blob
Feth elites
Guard blob
Guard blob
Guard blob
Vendetta riding vets
Vendetta riding vets
Vendetta riding vets
Vendettas all around
Artillery and Tanks all around
I expect a new codex to come out soonish so there may be a pretty big shake up. I definitely expect the Vendetta to be nerfed HARD though.
Orks are another aging codex, they're a lot of fun, they're pretty easy to grasp the basics of, but currently they're a difficult army to master and their codex which trukked solidly on through 5e is now starting to show it's age, You do however, overwatch like a god (charging 30 shootaboyz is not fun) and Battlewagons loaded with Lootaz, Burnaz, or Tankbustaz still unleash massive amounts of hurt, and Dakkajets are very formadible air superioirty fighters, not to mention that MANz in a can and Bikernobz still wreck face with few equals.
The fact that MANz get cheap assault transports and the saving grace of a second wound let's them bypass many of the weaknesses of other TEQ units, plus they get a lot of attacks per model to break things. Biker nobz are almost as durable and hurty and 6e has helped them a lot, while the old musical wounds trick is gone, you now no longer get Instagibbed by battle cannons and krak missiles, FNP now applies in almost every situation cover is easy to get, and you get a new toy, hammer of wrath! One unmodified S attack at I10 may not sound like much but when it comes to piling on wounds, every bit helps.
Of course, much like the guard the Orks are almost guaranteed to get a new codex pretty soon.

I'm going to vote White Scars. While almost everyone does play Space Marines, most of those people play Ultramarines or a homebrew chapter. From my knowledge, White Scars players are relatively rare. And bikes are mobile and fast while still being shooty. Mongols are awesome too, especially Tamerlane who actually built a throne out of skulls.

I gotta vote Orks on this one just because they're too awesome and I like to fight against them.
Second choice would be White Scars because I've never actually seen anyone actually play them.

Thanks for the feedback, all! Seems like a sad day for the blood god...I guess there's always next edition...
Orks, fear not: After a little inventory, I've decided I'm not Stompa shy of an Orkapalypse, so I've decided to at least finish that to have an army to play in apoc games.
Question on SM bikes: How much DA iconography is molded on to DV/Ravenwing bikes? Is turning them into vanilla/White Scar bikes just a matter of a little bit of filing/green stuff?
I admit the codex release schedule is making me think a little bit about this...if orks are getting redone I'd like to wait and see. SM sound like they're the next codex, but I don't think it would make a huge difference to starting White Scars (I mean, I'm buying a lot of bikes, and that's unlikely to change.)
