Just finally getting into 40k after decades of playing Space Hulk & lurking on Dakka.

Totally unlike anyone else* I'm working on a plague & noise marine army but I feel like the chaos marine kit is kind of dull. I'm thinking of using possessed and raptors as my cult marines. Has anyone tried putting bolter arms on them? Do they fit okay? Does it look okay with the running legs?

I'm probably getting two Dark Vengeance boxes. Is there any problem swapping the nicely sculpted but highly priced chosen's close combat weapons for bolters and chainsword? I've read that they're bigger than the regular marines.

Also, I will be once again branching out into non-powergaming, fluff-centric territory** by sometimes using two heldrakes. I can appreciate the cool design of the dinobot models but they're not my cup of tea. I mostly like the idea of vaguely anthropomorphic mecha like dreadnoughts, helbrutes, and wraithlords. I'm thinking about using the DV helbrute and swapping his arms for some kind of massive wings. Maybe organic, maybe mechanical, maybe some kind of hybrid. Is there a way to do this without modelling for an advantage and making a heldrake that's easier to hide? Make the wings as wide as the actual model? Maybe bring a cardboard cutout the same size as the actual model & let my opponents use that for targeting?

Thanks
TSLB

Swapping the weapons shouldn't be a problem. I just cut the arm off level with the bottom of the shoulder pad, then drilled up into it and fitted a warp talon claw instead of the power axe. It would work just as easily with a chainsword though. You might need to trim the top of the arm though. I did.

Thanks, and nice color scheme. Looks scarier than most traditional chaos colors.

I've put a bolter on the running legs of a khorne berzerker and it looked awesome, so that would probably be fine. I also know that the two lightning claw chosen was pretty easy to change, i just don' know what I'm puting on his arms yet,
So he only has shoulders, but other things seem to fit on fine

I love the hellblade and hell talon as chaos flyers. The hellturkey is a bit...ugh...to me. If I did chaos (its really one of the only armies I dont have) I would attempt some sort of stand in. Do you play games at games workshop stores exclusively? Some hobby stores only allow GW products when playing GW in their stores. If so, maybe there is some fantasy flyer you could convert?
Heres a nice conversion:

Nice, good to know. Also, you could always keep him without arms & say he had his amputated in solidarity with Abbaddon.

Abaddon does have arms! Unfortunately due to an unfortunate meltabomb related accident they're welded to his torso.

Cool, hadn't seen that. This is a whole other (almost totally non-daemonic) idea:

I also really liked this, kind of similar to the one you posted, third post down:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/495308.page

I really like the shape of dreadnoughts & helbrutes so I was wondering if I could make one of the (incredibly cheap) helbrutes into a drake. Probably the easiest thing is find a pair of dragon or daemon prince wings and incorporate engines or rotors.
