Two part question...

1. Has anyone created a mutation for their own Space marine chapter? When reading up on the various gene-seed mutations I wondered if anyone had any ideas on malfunctioning zygotes and the mutation associated with them.

I was thinking something along the line of the Occulobe malfunctioning so eyesight is increased even more during the day but has no advantage at night.

Or the Mucranoid organ mutating to the point where a small percentage of space marines skin turns solid or stone-like.

I am trying to brainstorm more ideas for my chapter so that it stands out but sounds interesting.

2.if the Canus-Helix for the space wolves involves mixing wolf DNA with human DNA, could it be done with other animals? Obviously you can see a practical reason to use wolf DNA (pack mentality, aggression, loyalty, etc), so no giraffe marines, but perhaps lizard or insect DNA?

2: I have kicked around a Lion based chapter(counts as space wolves)

The Black Dragons chapter has an Ossmodula mutation that causes them to grow bony crests, and some to grow blades of bone on their arms that they use as deadly melee weapons(after coating them in adamantium) http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Black_Dragons#.Ue4KZZz_dPs

I'm toying around with a Space Raccoon army (don't ask had a pet raccoon when I was younger) anyway my guys will have tails and certain members will be bulkier, all a result a geneseed mutation

I guess no other responses? Thanks 2x210 and Grey Templar. I guess I was leaning towards more of a lizard type asartes, because of the belcher's gland.

Wolves make sense due to pack mentality and aggression. Yet most asartes are calm and cold, like apex predators(sharks, big cats..).

I was hoping to find ideas on how mutation can change the flavor of a chapter. I don't want a doomed chapter, but one that has succeeded despite having a perceived flaw in their gene-seed.

Well if you want something on te belcher's gland how about a WHFB inspiration. I'm thinking somewhat amongst the lines of a salamander. They have a volatile chemical that ignites when it comes into contact with the air, like a flamethrower. Now I'm not suggesting making them firebreathing dragons, but something similar. The belcher's gland of your chapter also produces a somewhat more volatile chemical. But it doesnt ignite when in contact with air. Instead your marines have slightly adapted helmets. Their mouth grilles can be opened up to enable a small pilot light to function inside. Thus making them able to breath fire like a flamethrower without making it too big of a mutation and it beeing seen as a flaw. It will make them a bit similar to the Salamanders, so you could run a Vulkan Hestan list with flamethrowers to create the feel of their special mutation. With twin-linked flamer weapons you could say that its one shot from their flamers and one from their belcher's gland when their first one misses.

Sorry for my spelling. I'm not a native speaker and a dyslexic.

1. Im currently working on a flaw for my chapter right now.

I am making my chapter based on DBZ and i want a way for my marines to 'power up' without being extremely, i believe the term is "Mary Sue" ish. So far I have a Malfunctioning Sus-an Membrane. It causes the marine to go into overdrive, increasing all of his physical attributes for a short time before being plunged into a comatose state. Unknown reasons for this overdrive state but nearly always happens during battle.

I dont have it completely figured yet this is just a starTing point for me

2. Ants: carry 10x body weight
All the way to
Zebra: Confusion - Is it a black marine with white stripes or
a white marine with black stripes?
Giraffe: maybe their circulatory system but i dont know nearly enough.

Avian DNA for hollow bones? Despite popular belief the bird's hollow bone structure is actually surprisingly strong and significantly lighter than normal bone (which is already surprisingly light).

Maybe a more agile chapter of space marines with less extreme muscle enhancement? If you are ambitious about modeling you could even find some way to strip down the power armor and make it look lighter too (like leaving the shoulder pads off).

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

Indeed. Also, the hollow bones of birds give them additional lung capacity. So these marines would have more endurance because of this.

Haha I like the hollow bones idea, lose strength while doubling speed!

Thanks Disciple of Fate, that is actually a very good idea for a fire breathing chapter! You are right though, sounds like a Salamander army or fire-worshipers at least. Still thank you for the idea of having augmented armor to accommodate for a gene-seed mutation, I think that is more of what I want for my chapter.

Okay I am just going to say it...Shark Marines! In honor of Shark week.

Hollow bones!! model all of your assault marines with DE Scourge wings!! the feathered ones, not the bat ones.

Use all of those beak helmets for the army. I mean, having the eagle makes sense, as the Aquila is a double-headed eagle.

So you've got a lighter, faster army that could focus on assault. You could run them as blood angels for the "Eagle" Assault Troops. Would it be too weird to have a double headed marine? I think so yes.

Chapter name? (Desired Color) Aquila or Eagles.

Crimson Aquila
Feathers of Fury (lol)
