Hey guys,

After reading the novel dark apostle I have decided to create My own 'Host' of word bearers similar to the one detailed in the book...

I already have the following:

Chaos Lord with plasma pistol and powerweapon

Chaos lord in terminator armour with chainfist and combi-bolter

19 cultists

6 chosen

1 Hellbrute

7 chaos space marines

What could I add to this and still be effective and stand a chance of winning?

I wouldn't like to use heldrakes personally and would want to include some Khornze Berzerkers!

I understand, I didn't want to use heldrakes for the longest time. As for choices other than heldrakes, spawn and nurgle marked bikes are very though and fast, which is something you will need. As for troops, more Culists won't hurt, they're cheap deck chair units, so you can put points in better foc slots, like fast and heavy. Obliterators and havocs are some of the better choices, while I would forget about maulerfiends unless you're running them in 2s or 3s. As far as hqs go, I think the best beta are either cheap lords that will hide, or something fast, such as jugger lords or bike lords.

It looks like you got the dark vengeance set.
As I always say, use those chosen as champs for csm & havoc squads. Compared to termi of equal points (one chosen with a pow weapon is 2 points more than a termi with a pow weapon) the chosen does not get 3+/5++ saves or relentless. If only they made chosen keep the infiltrate rule then they would be much more viable. Back in 5th ed, I would take 3 squads & out flank them. Now I tirelessly experiment with a configuration to take 4-5 squads and abaddon.

Do you have a space marine friend? Borrow his rhinos, try transporting your csm or proxied, and let me know if giving up first blood makes or breaks you. If you can not handle losing 1 victory point to get most of your troops across the board then field no armor value below 13.

Proxy plague marines, they are green for a reason. They will allow a novice player to make mistakes, but will allow a skill player to dominate with flexibility and durability. The are tougher meaning harder to wound. They get plague knives so they can poison a mc on a 4+, and they get an extra attack from bolt pistol+ccw grit. Their blight grenades deny charge attack bonus, and when used offensively can deny charge thru cover penalty. They get feel no pain. Lastly, they can get a pair of flamers, meltaguns, or plasmaguns.

Insert straws on multi melta hellbrute to turn them into auto cannons or lascannons. U want it to be a rifle dread cuz we can not get av13 venerable dreads.

Was thinking of having a mobile chaos force using squads in rhinos (I have three from my BT), plague marines and khorne berzerkers are units I both want and admire, the chosen is a good idea and will be done, some terminators will be used eventually. I don't mind about first blood! Blood for the blood god and all that!

Alternativeley I wouldn't mind having a 19 man cultist unit and a sorcerer of some sort to sit on home objectives if any with MoN and send forward a unit of 20 CSM with MoK and meltas, 9 plague marines and MoN lord in rhino to make them scoring and a unit of 12-20 Khorne Berzerkers just to charge at the enemy to give him something to shoot at...
