Want to try out a Tyranid army without any MC's in it. I have MC's for other lists but I want something slightly different to play with.

> The idea with this is to have the Tyranid Primes join the Warrior Squads for the stats buff they give (Weapon and Ballistic Skill 1 Point Higher).
> Long range support is plentiful from the Zoanthropes, Hive Guard and Biovores.
> 30x Gargoyles for something of a distraction while the hard hitters get forward.
> The 24 Genestealers should be able to cause some havoc and dstract some of the enemy army while the gargs pile forward due to them infiltrating.

Can anyone think of anything that might help an army like this? The one concern I have is the 2nd Warrior Brood with only close combat weapons, its going to take them ages to get in so its either swap them to Devourers or perhaps only take 1 Warrior Brood and 1 Prime and use the 361 points I would have spare on something else (9 Shrikes and 4 Spore Mine Broods for Bombardment, Shrikes might help the Gargoyles not run away)?

I am pretty sure 30 Gargoyles and 9 Shrikes running at someone would put the fear of god into them!

All comments welcome!

I commend you for trying. In friendly games I'm sure this could be fun. In competition though, this wouldn't work.

Do it. I think you'll actually fair pretty well, barring there's very little S8+ weaponry.

As you your question, I think you should get those Shrikes and kit them with either BS/LW or dual BS. They are beasts in combat and will shred anything they touch. Keep them behind the gargoyles for a coversave and you're golden.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, you could also shrink the size of the other warrior brood (shooty one) because it'll probably attract too much attention. My suggestion is to go with 6 or less. Then you can use those points to either pick up Doom of Malan'tai or an additional brood of Hive guard.

I think with the meta shift (MSU units, more S7 weaponry, less S8 weaponry) Warriors may see a comback. Especially if you're attaching a Prime to them. Consider shaving some points to add regeneration to both Primes. This way you can attach them both to the 6 man Warrior unit to absorb those S8+ shots hopefully long enough for your Shrikes to wipe them out.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I don't like the Scything Talons on Genestealers. Toxin Sacs, perhaps, as it increases wounds and Rends.

I also wonder if you'll want to consider Raveners. Granted, they are super fragile and can't get into combat nearly as fast as they used to (no run+assault anymore), but they will get there quick enough to take away a shooting threat. They will also draw some fire off of your other units. I don't know what you'd take out for that though.
