Well not technically a Cease & Desist but close enough - greetings, Dakka-ites!

As some of you may know, I've been running a Shapeways store for a while now, GrimDarkBits (http://www.shapeways.com/shops/grimdarkbits), that recently attempted to pick up GW's slack on "Specialist" miniatures.

Today I finally received a very polite notice from Games Workshop Legal to remove any offending models from my store. This was a long time coming, honestly, but this little venture has always been a calculated risk - basically taking models I was making for personal use anyway, and making them available to the public after the loss of Specialist Games support.

I'm asking for a complete list of offending models, and once I receive a reply, it will take me a few days at least to physically remove the specified models from the store.

So for those who are interested, there might be a week or so to pick up anything Epic or BFG related you may have been eyeballing. The store will remain open after that with the remaining catalog, and I'll continue making new models in the future as well.

Thanks for looking!

Wow. Great stuff. I imagine the BFG and Epic stuff is the problem. I really like your 28mm stuff though.

I ran across your items randomly the other day via a Russian sculptor and didn't realise that these weren't his - I didn't know what Shapeways was - newb .

I thought at the time it was all very near the mark but mistakenly assume that being Russian it would fly under the radar. Clearly as a USer that isn't the case.

Its a shame that GW will seek to pull this as it would be a good resource in the absence of official models but I am not at all surprised.

was this really a surprise? just because many of those models are out of print didn't invalidate GW's copyright on them.

Ok, I haven't seen your store (am at work at the moment) but if the minis are carbon copies of GW models, then the 'friendly' letter from GW's legal department was as inevitable as Angron losing his cool when someone told him red just wasn't his colour.

However, have you considered making some of your own designs of BFG ships that can 'count as' Imperial battleships or whatever? Just change the existing designs enough so they still look grimdark, but can no longer be considered GW designs...

You may have already done this - as I said I can't take a peek at your Shapeways store on my work PC. I agree with you and many others that there should be options for punters to cough up some cash for OOP specialist games models.

All the best!

They are his own designs, though some are very similar to GW ones.

A reproduction (which I think that Op confesses) is not a new or separate design.

Post up here when you get the list of items being removed. I may make an order from you before that happens

There's a little of both from my browsing; unique work and 1:1 copies.

Since you obviously have some skill at CAD, I hope you continue the modelling business after this. It's always nice to have more third party vendors, especially for BFG.

Unless you have dropped some items (I'm assuming you have), I can't see how GW can claim anything about your stuff other than the 6mm Chaotic marines and the combi-bolters, and even the Marines are no different than models from other companies like Anvil. Everything else might be derivative of a GW product, but is nothing that GW has ever spent a dime producing.

Looks like the BFG stuff was fine but he got hammered on the "epic" stuff. Pity since I was most interested in those items. Should have picked up those "not" warhounds a month ago when I thought about it.

Hmm, well...we all saw that one coming!

I quite liked your BFG models, despite the limitations of 3d printing technology (something with the details that always seem odd).

I hope you're still going to make new models, very curious to see you come up with original designs!
