Hey all,

I decided it was time to start up a new army and went with Ultramarines. Attached is my first Ultramarine. I'm not new to painting but I tried out some new techniques with this guy to include layering and lining. What do you think? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think he looks really good. I like the edging, and the writing on the purity seals a lot too.

Looks great my friend! Good highlights/hardlining as well as great transitions between colors! Also good choice wth the cork for the base, really makes your blue stand out!

Blessed are they that reap the sinners from the sight of the Emperor.

Very nice stuff, very solid and resolved. Start on the rest of the army!

Looks good! It might be the red bolter and green on the base, but he struck me as an old-school marine, done in the modern style. Very cool.

Very nice! Another model that gets me nostalgic with it's 2nd Ed colour pallette. Any aspirations on an army of these guys?

Now that I call retro Marine! A army of these would make everyone blue with envy, well done

Thanks for the gracious comments, everyone!

Indeed I was going for the retro Ultramarine look from 2nd edition. I used to play Ultramarines back in 2nd and still have the codex (it was an awesome book!).

I think the red bolter contrasts very nicely with the blue armor as does the green base.

This was the test model and I'm pleased with the outcome and process used to paint it. It needs a matte varnish coat later today but after that I'm starting with batch painting the rest of the squad. I'll post updates once the next few are done!

He's a bit to clean for my liking like my models to look good and dirty, but he looks great really like the blue.

Ultramarines spend 90% of their time cleaning their armour, and 10% of their time travelling to the next battle.

OP : Love it. Very very nice. Clean, BOLD colours and fantastic edging/highlights. Puts my Ultras to shame tbh.

UPDATED July 24th!

Completed an additional marine this afternoon. Went out and purchased a white charcoal pencil for the edge highlights. Came out pretty good once I got a technique down. Much less error-prone using a pencil. Applied 2 coats of matte to protect the charcoal as it rubs off easily.
