Tip #1- Try and find a store or club local to you. It is great to be taught the game by knowledgeable gamers instead of having to learn it for yourself. They can also help you with painting, modelling etc. Of course, that is also what this forum is for, but it's great to have hands on experience. But see, when I started, I had neither, and it sucked wasting hundreds of dollars on models that wouldn't see use for years. Also other gamers can teach you easier and loan you rulebooks so you don't have to buy one.

Tip #2- Learn to have fun with it by yourself. I didn't have a lot of fun with the hobby by myself until just recently, so its good to get really excited about terrain building and painting, because you'll be doing it for quite a while. My FLGS closed recently, and I haven't played a game since, so I just had to build terrain and wait and hope.

Tip #3- Buy your army book first. Another thing I messed up on, I had already bought tons of models without having the rules for them. Of course, make sure you like the models first by maybe buying one box.

I hope that all helps. Just want somebody else to have info I didn't have when I started.

Oh and Welcome to Dakka!
