I play Necrons and have added green crystals sticking out of the ground to my Warrior bases but I cannot for the life of me figure out where Necron crystals come from or why they are associated with Necrons. I've read most of the fluff in the new Necron Codex but have found nothing. Can anyone enlighten me?

They are semi-synthetic minerals grown through the use of Necron Super-Science to facilitate the application of various avenues of Necron Super-Science into useful tools of warfare and technology.

Necron crystals were more in style back in the old Necron codex, when Necrons were, for the most part, silver and black and given dark grey bases, representing that they come from a Tomb World with little-to-no life.

The crystals fit well with the archetypal Necron Tomb World, whereas now Tomb Worlds are generally accepted to be a little more diverse, and not just limited to an LV-426 lookalike.

There's no confirmed fluff for the crystals, although it stands to reason that they can be used as an energy source, hence the sickly green color of most Necron technology and the power matrix of the Monolith.

I could see that being the case and would explain why the crystals are found so frequently, but where did you get this info?
