Not sure if this has been covered already (apologies if so). I was just reading some other threads and was thinking about the widely discussed problem of what to do with updating the rules for Black Templars. Personally I've liked the coverage that the other main Space Marine chapters have gotten with their codexes over the last few years. SW and BA in particular got some nice models and the books were good.

I've heard lots of chat of BT being rolled into the main SM codex. As a (very new) BT player that would be a shame in my eyes, but I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world. However the new format of having a codex supplement for BT might fit the mould better. I've not read any of the supplement books, so was wondering if anyone else thought that might be a possible solution to the BT problem? Who knows, maybe we'll get a bunch of codex supplements for SM?

Any thoughts?

There was a rumor on BoLS that Codex space marine would be getting around 5 supplements. I don't recall all the chapters but BT and White scars were two of them.

I'm of two minds on this issue.

1) We get new rules (YAY!) along with an upgraded pool of units to pull from(YAY!). I'm guessing that as a supplement we won't get much in the way of new models, maybe a new unit of some kind (Neophytes or recast sword brethern both plastic) and one new IC.

2) It means I have to buy two new books. And most likely a host of new models since the current BT meta is likely to change a lot.

I think you're right. If we do get a supplement I wouldn't expect many new models. Your suggestion of neophytes and some kind of new IC would be fine for me actually, as I hate taking scouts as neophytes (just looks wrong!). The rules for Sword Brethren need to be greatly improved too IMO.

I see your point on the two books and new models concern, but I won't be able to stop myself if the models/rules are any good!

BT as a supplement would be the obvious thing to do. That way the fluff lovers can have an entire book devoted to how awesome their chapter is, while the rules can be simplified to a more appropriate level:

A detachment chosen from the Black Templars expansion uses the following rule:

All models in your army may be painted as Black Templars.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Actually, looks like they could very well be getting their own codex. Lots of rumours have surfaced on Faeit, and from a "good source", no less.

Not saying it's definetely true, they are rumours, but it's definetely something to take note of.

Yeah I'm on board with this theory. I think the BT codex will be coming out in September. All this talk on a new Space Marince codex, its Space Marine Black Templar!!

Theyre getting own book. GW writers have stated its happening. There was never a rumor concerning them getting rolled or supplemented; its been the wishlisting of people who dont think they deserve a book. Boohoo for them. Nothing to see here, and enjoy your 6th edition C:BT when it arrives.

I think that a lot of the Chapters currently with Codexes are not different enough from the Codex Space Marines that they couldn't be done as a Codex Supplement with a bit more thorough edits to the rules than the ones we've seen so far.

I know a lot of folks see this as the death of their army, but I disagree. There is so much overlap between many of these codexes and the basic Space Marines codex that it'd be simpler to just have the variant codex reference the Space Marine Codex in the half to 3/4 of the book they overlap.
