Pyromaniac Hellhound Pilot
In the warp, searching for Marbo
|
Hello! I just bought the Blood Angel codex, and got busy trying to put together a thousand point list. However, after looking through the book, I just can't decide what to take! I do want to have a large part of my army with Jump packs, but after that I can't figure out what else to get. I just play casual games 1000-1500pt, and rarely ever see a flyer.
My First Idea
My Second idea: 999pt -edited, now 1000pt
Warlord Librarian - 125
Jump pack & Force Stave
1x Sanguinary Priest w/jump packs - 75pt
Assault Squad x10 - 235pts
1x Meltagun 1X Plasma Pistol
Sgt w/Power Sword + Bolt Pistol + Combat Shield
Assault Squad x10 - 235pts
1x Meltagun 1x Plasma Pistol
Sgt w/Power Sword + Bolt Pistol + Combat Shield
TAC Marines x 10 -240pts
1x Plasma Gun 1x Missile Launcher
Sgt w/Combi-Plasma
Rhino
Scout Squad x 5 Camocloaks - 90pts
4x Sniper Rifles
Sgt w/Sniper Rifle
I love the idea of Assault marines, but have no experience with them. But still, I want them to be a big part of my army. This is my first army outside of Imperial guard.
Have at it.

As a long time BA player I can tell you that your in for an uphill battle if you intend on playing them fluffy. Assault armies have a very hard time in 6th edition, and so do Space Marines. As to your list specifically you don't have much mobility and your missing an HQ. (Do NOT get a captain.) A powerfist with a melta-bomb is redundant and unnecessary (especially sense you already have two melta-guns), your better off with a Thunderhammer for the same amount of points, or a powersword with combat shield. Furthermore you don't have any good objective holding units, assault marines are wasted sitting on objectives, they need to get the charge and their weapon range is way to short to be effect at deterring enemies, especially the heavy tanks that they should be hunting.

Well... Space Marines are still good; and let's be honest, if you plan on playing the assault-game, which IS certainly more difficult in this edition, jump-packs are the way to go. Planned correctly though you can reroll assault rolls and even get Hammer of Wrath. Also ours don't scatter much if you want to deep strike and you get that Str bonus with the priest and FnP if you happen to be holding an objective or otherwise.
You do need an hq... Librarian with JP are cheap and useful but not super durable.
If you are only playing small point games with no flyers, tank hunting is probably not your biggest issue.

I updated my list with a TAC squad, some scouts with rifles, a librarian, and different weapon load outs. Not entirely sure about it though. Note; this is my first time playing as Marines, or building a list of them anyways.

It looks fun to me... if you have more snipers you might as well make the whole scout squad snipers, otherwise those 2 bolter guys are just looking pretty when the rest shoot.
And the Sarg on the Tac squad might as well have combi-plasma since it's a medium/long range squad.

try and see if you can squeeze a rhino in there for your tactical marines, your scouts can sit on the home objective so you want your tacticals to be able to keep up with the rest of the army. Alternitavely you could drop them completely and go for some honour guard or vanguards for your librarian. And although assault is much harder in 6th edition, marines are still quite resilient and can survive well plus jump packs help them cross the board quickly

I dropped the Assault Squads to 9 man squads, and left them with one meltagun each. The TAC squad got their Rhino, and the scouts (now with all sniper rifles) got camo-cloaks. This brings the list up to 999pts. I guess I could give the Rhino a searchlight for 1pt to round it off.

Rather than dumping firepower, one priest is probably fine at 1K. Get your special weapons back, and afford your rhino.

Alright, dropped a priest, and got my Assault squads back to 10man with Plasma pistol and melta gun. Had ten points left over, and was thinking of giving my Rhino a storm bolter, but decided on combat shields for my Assault Sergeants.
Can Sergeants have Power swords, combat shields, AND a bolt pistol? Fluff wise I could see the sarge holstering the pistol and drawing the shield in mid charge...
Automatically Appended Next Post:
After reading some of the Errata, I discovered that I can replace all power swords with power weapons. I also notice that, other than my Librarian, my assault squads have no way of dealing with Toughness 8+ creatures in melee combat(except for Krak grenades I guess). So I was wondering; should I replace the sergeant's weapons with power axes/power mauls, or just avoid melee combat with said T8+ creatures?

Your assault marines cannot deal with T8 creatures. They will get chewed up and spit out. Even with a powerfist the sergeant is too slow. You may get 1 or 2 wounds but that's not much against an MC, and the return will be bad. MC's must be shot to death. Also the power maul is pure garbage.
Yes sergeants can have a bolt pistol, power weapon, and combat shield. The option simply says the sergeant may take a combat shield, it doesn't replace anything. So you also retain your +1 attack for having two CCW.

How about, instead of powerfists (which would be nice against T4 and lower, but probably bad in a challenge) I take Power Sword, Combat Shield, and Melta Bombs? Sure my squads will have a plasma pistol, and meltagun, but the range for those is 12". If I'm that close to something that I need to use it on...then I'm in assault distance (mine/theirs). Besides, the way I see it, should those two shots fail to kill (and the thing I'm attacking doesn't have a higher initiative) then the meltabomb is just another shot at insta-boom/wounding.
This should keep my sergeant at his I4 in case of challenges, with that tiny chance of invuln saving. Personally, I don't put much stock in the combat shield. Do you guys have any luck with it, or should I skip for something else?
