They are so funky and have such obvious synergies with other units in the codex, but how do you make the most of them?

Lots of pinning weapons seems a good place to start, Eldar have loads of them.

Psychic shenanigans: Horrify + Telepathy powers seem to fit very well.

Here is a quickly thrown together 1500pt list;

Farseer + JB + Laughing mantle (3 rolls on Telepathy)

5x rangers
5x rangers
5x rangers
5x rangers

5x Fire Dragons
+Wave serpent + SL + SC + Holo

5x Warp Spiders + Exarch + Fast shot + Spinerett rifle
Hemlock
Hemlock

Nightspinner + Holo
Nightspinner + Holo
3x Shadow Weaver

Every unit in this list causes pinning and enemy units will be rerolling succesfull checks once the hemlocks are on.

The farseer + Hemlocks give me 2-3 Terrify powers for fearless units.

I have no runes of Battle! Horrify goes so well with this lists gimmick but I just cant see a cost effective way of getting it in. I could drop the Farseer for 2x Spiritseer giving me 4 rolls on battle, with conceal being nice on the rangers.

Thoughts?
Anyone had any luck using Hemlocks?
Any others units or abilities which synergize well with them?

I made the most of mine by assembling it as a Crimson Hunter Exarch.

In all seriousness though, this is because the Hemlock doesn't fit my playstyle. I don't play lockdown tactics, to stop the enemy hitting me back, I shoot the hell out of them to make sure that there's no-one left TO shoot back...

Using it in an army where EVERYTHING causes Pinning is a nice use though. provided the opponent doesn't do too much damage to your units before the Hemlocks arrive.

If you're looking to get Horrify in, I might suggest ditching the Shadow Weavers for that Spiritseer. They only have small blast, so they're going to pale in comparison to their larger Nightspinner Brethren.

You also appear to have precious little that can take down aircraft. Sure, there's the Dragons and Spiders, but it's very easy for a flyer to get out of a 12" range. (although the Serpent will play it's part here as well)

Forces of Order: Grey Knights & Eldar
Forces of Disorder: Dark Eldar
Forces of 'we don't care, we're just going to eat you anyway': Tyranids

NEW!! For 2014: Deadzone, 40k RPG: Rogue Trader, XWing and Dreadball!

Also went in for Rampage with the DBX KS.

The only problem I have found with running hemlocks is that the earliest you may cast their psychic power is turn 3. This is because terrify is a malediction and the may not be cast the same turn you come in from reserve.

The best way to make use of one is to paint it pretty. Show it off to everyone you can find. Then store it in a safe place until it has rules that make it useful in any way.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.
