I need to learn the game better than I do but I really don't want to lose each and every singe game while I work through the learning curve. To that end, I'm trying to come up with a balanced list for the new edition. This list doesn't take advantage of allies or have any fancy tricks to it but it does have the basics. The thing is, with stuff like Wraithknights and Riptides out there I don't know if that is enough any more. Is there something vital lacking in this list? Any glaring omissions? Which armies am I likely to have the most trouble with? Which units should I have and which should I drop out to make room?

Your spending an awful lot on upgrades for your armor that are near useless, if not totally useless.
Drop extra armor outright. For what you pay, it is near worthless as crew stunned is pretty rare. The tank will either be glanced to death or blown up. Storm bolters are okay, but you will be snap shooting them each time you move and fire more important guns, so keep that in mind. They are best on your vindicator as they protect the main gun as it reduces the chance of losing it from 50 to 33 percent, but again they will always be snap firing if you use the main cannon.
Hunter killer missiles are meh and points better spent elsehwere. Maybe rhinos or drop pods for your tac squads, as they won't do all that much on foot.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I see what you're saying about the extra armor and stuff. As for the footslogging, I was looking at using the Tac Squads to seize and hold objectives and when I lose a Rhino with a squad embarked, I always seem to lose one or two guys along with it. Stripping the vehicles let me get two more stock Attack Bikes but not upgrade them to multimeltas.
