Hey Y'all! I was hoping to get some help putting together a killer Sons of Horus army list. I've played Eldar and Tau for awhile but never Space Marines and had a few questions.

I want to add Abaddon and his terminators to a list but is he a special character ? Are his terminators treated as a standard terminator squad?

Would sons of horus troops be treated as standard SM troops? I haven't gotten my hands on a SM codex yet but I'm working on it.

is there anything I would need to add to the list to really make it Stand out as a sons of horus army? Ie drop pod -land raider -jump packs?

Would it really just be a standard SM army that just looks like a sons of horus army? Or is the an advantage to having a sons of horus army?

thanks for your help!!

Well, first of all, doctrine queries are best suited for the 40k fluff part of the forum where you'll find all the history boffs.

Your post is pretty vague about what you're looking to do, so I'll try to be as broad as possible.

1) Abaddon is a special character in Codex : Chaos Space Marines and the Sons of Horus, Horus Heresy: Betrayal heresy era legion list. He could by all means be a 'counts as' Captain in Codex Space Marines.

2)Justaerin Terminators are a seperate elites choice you can take in a HH:B legion list, and Abaddon only affects them by allowing his squad of Justaerin to deepstrike, which usually isn't an option.

Terminators in C:SM have a single power sword for the Sergeant and power fists for everyone else. Hence, you'll need to outfit your Justaerin this way if you want to field them using C:SM rules. It is also worth noting that you *cannot* take a multi-melta in a C:SM Terminator Squad, or indeed any Terminator Squad outside of the HH:B's Justaerin.

Codex: Space Wolves would be something to consider - their Terminators can take power weapons as default, letting you go all power axes without any conversion work bar the MM.

3) You cannot mix and match rules from different Codex's - troops from HH:B's legion list cannot be used with C:SM. You can do 'counts as' Tactical Marines freely, but you won't be getting your heresy era 20 man squads unless you use the Chaos Space Marines Codex.

4) Just off the top of my own head, the motto of the Sons of Horus is the idea that you have a 'tip of the spear' that plunges into the heart of the enemy. Terminators would typically assume this role, so one or two squads of them would be fairly fluffy. I'm not 100% sure but I believe Horus also used assault marines in this role.

Finally, if you haven't seen it already, FW released some new models today, including some SOH stuff:

What are you trying to do? I am seeing you go in different directions. Because you have no direction, Ill tell you where I am going. I have been working on a finalized Legion list for weeks now, unfortunately Dakka is not the best place to post them, B&C seems to get better results. What I am attempting to do at this point is build an infantry/armored fist centric force that I can also use for a chaos force. Most non-daemonic stuff transfers over easy enough except the Volkite stuff.

How about posting some even relative ideas for force composition you would like to have. Might be a good start.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Hey guys! Thanks for your reply. I actually had no idea what kind of structure I wanted for my force. I just finished the first few books of the horus heresy went onto the dakka galleries and found some awesome stuff. Like this one>

What kind of setup is that?

If the guy there is trying to keep a coherent fluff theme I'd say he's modelling a Pre-Heresy but post-Luna Wolves era army based around the 10th Company with support from Abaddon. Easiest way to tell is he has Garviel Loken at the front and the mix reminds me of the beginning of 'Horus Rising', disregarding the fact they were LW's then.

His theme appears to be some sort of rapid attack force similar to Horus' tip of the spear tactics. I'd expect his army would be very effective on the tabletop, though it is technically illegal for HH:B that his Tactical Squads have special weapons.

That is my Sons of Horus, thanks for the compliments on paint!

Omega is definitely correct, This is my 10th company with Captain Garviel Loken supported by Abaddon and The Justaerin of 1st company.

When I originally built this army it was with 6th edition games in mind and they were built to play as Space Wolves (Luna Wolves, it made sense at the time). I do have marines to replace all special weapons in the squads now to make them legal for HH:B games. I do also have the option of running Horus and making Veteran squads and Justaerin troops. Veteran squads are able to take specials.

The Idea behind it was definitely Horus' Trademark Speartip, a fast and brutal attack where the fighting is the strongest. I have plenty more units on the way.including 10 more cataphractii, Legion Praetor in terminator (using as Sergeant Rassek in normal scenario), Apothecary, Recons, Reavers. and already have a Warhound Titan to round out those games against my brother's Fellblade.

Ice if you would like to, please feel free to message me and I can answer any questions you might have about the army, I do also somewhat pride myself on having a pretty good knowledge of Sons/Lunas fluff.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

Fantastic paintjobs! Which green did you use? I am assembling my SOH and am about to begin painting them. I prefer the look of your paintjob over the FW one.

Are you not now able to field betrayal army lists in standard 40k? I think they now allow 30k in tournaments. Great job on the army btw!
