So, I love the fluff behind Lone Wolves, but I'm scratching my head as to the appropriate tactical use for them. I've used them precisely twice (once in a 500 point game with termy gear, just for fun,) and once in an Apocalyptic game, (no gear, used him as a suicide detonator for a Myethic Spore.)
However, I want to use them more often and I need a good tactical way to use 'em. Any advice?

Deepstrike near some backfield unit, chew on them until reinforcements arrive? Things like devestators or firewarrior squads.
I think theyre best used a cheap disruption/distraction unit.

Lone wolves don't have a deep strike option.

Pretty much you deploy em well forward, run 'me as fast as you can and hope they either suck up way too many shots before dying or that they grab onto something valuable and stick a chain fist where the sun don't shine.

Either option they have done their job.

Termie armour confers deep strike doesn't it?

Not for Space Wolves, they don't trust teleporters or something

So what's the best equipment, terminators armor with storm chainfist? Should he take a lightning claw or a storm shield or just a combi-weapon?

TDA, Chainfist & SS. Pretty cheap for a monster hunting eternal warrior who has to die anyway.

I have run one with SS and MoW, put him in a rhino from a GH squad and charged forward. He ripped the throat out of a wraithlord then soaked up shooting from a few squads.

They can really pay their points back

Yeah, pretty much Termi, with SS and a Chainfist or Thunderhammer (he does well enough against MCs with his own rules that the Hammer may be overkill). The goal is to get him melee with something big and expensive. He either earns his points back or saves you a victory point.

It's best to keep them under 100pts and just throw them at the enemy. Chances are that they're going to be a distraction, soak up more fire than they're worth, or kill something valuable. TA/SS/CF is good enough to kill damn near any MC or IC in combat.

If you have spare points, the two extra wounds markers - er Fenresian Wolves aren't bad, but aren't great either.

IMHO, not worth the extra 20pts if you're running TDA.

I like to run him with TDA, SS, and Chainfist or TH. I've already had one plow through a daemon prince and a plague marine squad in a game. If they don't end up killing much then they are a good distraction as they don't give up a kill point if they die.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

one, power armour, mark of the wulfen, BP/chainsword, 2 fenrisian wolves up front to soak wounds. Sprint forward and absorb fire cheaply or start tearing through squads left and right.

I love my lone wolves. As other people I generally run two types:

TDA, SS, Thunderhammer. MC and scary IC hunter. Also demolishes vehicles. The chain fist is pretty much defunct in 6th edition with hull points, only being ap2 (like the hammer) and hitting rear armour on 3s. The initiative debuff can be invaluable against some of those MCs.

In low points games just MotW and if I have points spare then a storm shield. Generally makes his points back or at least holds up a unit for a couple of turns.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
