Hi, me and a friend recently started dabbling in Nuts and Bolt Action in an attempt t get away form the evil empire. After a while we got to talking about interesting things to do with 28mm WW2 and we eventually go onto the subject of Korea, and eventually onto the idea of a US-Soviet Conflict in the Far East around 1950.
While most of whats commonly available from Wargames Factory, Bolt Action and PSC will hold us in good stead for infantry and some of the vehicles we wanted to use a bit of early cold war tech.
So, long story shot, does anyone know where I could get 1/56 scale IS-3s, T-54s, Centurions and other early cold war tanks?

They are a bit harder to source in 28mm.
Most post war sruff is for the 1980s Cold War period.
Force of Arms may do a Centurion... I'm sure Empress will have a T-55 soon.
Though of course the North Koreans only used T-34/85s and SU-76s so they are easier to source.
If you dropped a scale to 20mm and 1/72nd you have a massive selection of figures and vehicles to choose from at far cheaper prices too... Reiver Castings even do a Korean War range.

I've played a bit in 1/72, but I think thats a little small for my friend's taste. He's looking for more of a squad or two with a vehicle or two in support.
I do have a lot of 1/72 about, good for large scale vehicle fighting.

You could easily do the Korean War with Warlord Games Bolt Action tanks, vehicles and minis. Here is a list of the tanks and vehicles used and you can easily get any of these from Warlord Games. I agree 1/72 would be the best but you can go 1/48 but that might make some of the terrain seem tiny.
US Army and Commonweath tanks and vehicles during the Korean War:
Medium Tank M4A3 "Sherman"
Medium Tank M4A3E8 "Sherman"
Light Tank M24 "Chaffee"
Heavy Tank M26 Pershing
M46 Patton
M36 tank destroyer

Tank, Infantry, Churchill (A22) (C Squadron 7th Royal Tank Regiment, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars)
Medium Tank M4A3 "Sherman" (Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (2nd Armoured Regiment))
Medium Tank M4A3E8 "Sherman" (Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (2nd Armoured Regiment))
Tank, Cruiser, Comet (A34)

They don't do centurions or Easy 8's and while they don't do Pattons per se the M46 is so close to a pershing I don't think it would be an issue

They might not make a few of those vehicles they should still have a really good selection to choose from in that era. However you are looking at alot of infantry. My time being stationed in korea the terrain will either be pretty boring and flat or really hilly as you get closer to the 38th.

Yes... But they lack the iconic vehicles of the period and vital ones for British forces. But Im sure someone does a 1/56th Centurion... and I know JTFM are looking at doing a Pershing.
Also the figures wouldnt like quite right... But I guess you could use them. Troops in Korea, again more the British, had a different look to WW2, though granted not by much.

Try Dinky, Corgi and Solido die cast models. They are usually about 1/43 or 1/50 scale.
Some are available new and you will find a lot of old models cheap on eBay.
