NEWCC 2013
Welcome to NEWCC! A glorious event going back a decade or so, the North East Warhammer Club Challenge represents the joyous tradition of clubs meeting up to test each other’s mettle, ogle each other’s models, and claim bragging rights (and a year's ownership of the prized NEWCC cup) among our peers and others who love the hobby.
As last year’s event was Warhammer 40,000, this one is Warhammer Fantasy Battle. As normal, clubs participating must be capable of organizing, officiating, and hosting the event next year if they win. Next year, as is tradition, the title will be decided by 40k once again. Our aim is to have a competitive tournament, but even more importantly to have a great gaming day with other clubs, showing off our armies, throwing the dice in camaraderie, and hopefully sharing beer and war stores afterward.
To enter, a club should contact Alex Fennell at aglfennell73 AT hotmail.com . Bear in mind that a club should only enter if they are capable of hosting the event next year, running a Warhammer 40,000 tournament for four man teams (although it does not have to match the exact format of this year's) to carry on the glorious tradition. The entry fee is $10 per player to go towards prize support. Last year's (40K) champions, the Cold Steel Mercenaries, will attempt to defend the cup playing a game that we don't really know the rules to very well, and invite all challengers!
Where & When
NEWCC 2013 will be hosted by The Battle Standard, 1540 F Pleasant Valley Road, in lovely Manchester CT. This is a plaza mall, the same plaza as Toys R Us, and near Olive Garden and KFC.
The date is October 26th 2013 (schedule below).
Rules! (will be the same as when we hosted it in 2011, to returning veterans):
Each club participating must field a four man team, each using a different army book. Any current army book may be used. Tournament-specific rules will follow shortly, but for now we're looking for teams to sign up! Clubs can enter more than one team if they want to and right now we have space for up to 15 teams.
Terminology notes
Team = The entire four man group.
Alliance = A combination of two players/Armies for a given game.
Army = The force fielded by one player within a Team or Alliance.
The format again this year will be three rounds of doubles. Each round a given Team will be paired against another Team, and play two simultaneous doubles games. The first round pairings will be random, and subsequent rounds paired by the Swiss system (closest battle point totals are paired against one another). Each team MUST use all three of their possible pairing combinations (Alliances) over the course of the day, but they may choose which Alliance to use when.
Player A + Player B AND Player C + Player D
Player A + Player C AND Player B + Player D
Player A + Player D AND Player B + Player C
So anyway, more to follow, but for now its time to see which teams pick up the gauntlet and step forward to play.

Now with rules!
For the square-base fans here, three clubs have already confirmed, plenty of room for more...
Restrictions and rules changes
* 1250 points per army using regular rulebook % restrictions
* max 450 points per unit (not including characters)
* No more than 12 dice can be used per magic phase for any reason. Any dice generated count towards this 12 dice other than magic mushrooms.
* Look out Sir! can be claimed as normal for one character per unit. This LOS roll can also be used for any spell that affects the entire unit and removes models instead of just causing a wound.
* Max 3 warmachines, 2 of same type
* No folding fortress, no special characters
* BRB doubles rules in effect.
Team Composition
Battle points (not victory) every round will be adjusted according to the two armies being fielded for the round.
Bonus battle point: Wood Elves, Beastmen, Tomb Kings
Negative battle point: Daemons of Chaos, Vampires, Warriors of Chaos
For example, a pairing of DoC and Ogres will take a -1 battle point penalty when paired together. A pairing of WE and Beastmen would get a mighty bonus of +2 battle points.
Scenarios
Pitched battle, battleline. No special victory conditions other than those in the BRB.
Battle points by victory differential:
0-150 Victory-Points difference = 10-10
151-300 = 11-9
301-450 = 12-8
451-600 = 13-7
601-750 = 14-6
751-900 = 15-5
901-1050 = 16-4
1051-1200 = 17-3
1201-1350 = 18-2
1351-1500 = 19-1
1500+ = 20/0
Appearance Scores
Unpainted models are to be destroyed by judges or opponents (better yet…leave them at home!)
0: Army contains vastly unacceptable proxy models (example. Using 20 skinks to fill out your dwarf ironbreaker unit)
40: Acceptable army. Three -color across the entire model with no noticeable primer showing through. Base must have an acceptable basing method beyond just painted bases. An army that is just dipped would fall in this category, as would one where most models are subjected to widescale drybrushing. Note that the penalty isn't harsh, it just pulls your team a bit further away from the coveted 'best painted' award.
45: A standard GT army.
50: A great painted GT army, with display board, some conversions, novel approaches, etc…one step above 'standard'. Some armies that spring to mind would be O'Brien's Skaven, Paul Gate's Empire, Jon V's Skaven, Mike Norton's Daemons, Jeremy's Wood Elves, Larro's anything.
+2 for 5th best
+3 for 4th best
+4 for 3rd best
+5 for 2nd best
+6 for best painted
-10 for inconsistent paint quality/style/basing (borrowing units from friends or the like where the basing/style does not match well)
-10 for 'unbased' armies (ie an army that just has goblin green painted on the plastic bases)
-10 for bringing a Dwarf army and claiming that the 30 rangers are armed with Crossbows because one unit filler has a crossbow on his back.
+4 points for having an acceptable team tee shirt.
+4 points for creative bribery of the organizer, Alex Fennell.
There will be NO penalty for borrowing armies or using commissioned models but it will result in ineligibility for 'Best Appearance'
Remember that paint scores across teams are AVERAGED and account for a maximum of 60 points per TEAM. This score will then be dived in HALF
Sportsmanship
This will be pass/fail. Failure results in a yellow card and 5 point penalty. Red card will be asked to leave the tournament.
Illegal lists
If a list is found to be illegal on the day of the tournament the TO will amend the list as best possible to allow play to continue. The team in question will take an immediate 5 point penalty only if errors are found in round two or later.
Scoring Breakdown
120 Battle
30 Appearance
0 Sports (could be up to -20 in team penalties)
0 Lists (could be up to -20 in team penalties)
-9 to 9 Army Comp
An Important note about Rules calls
Your organizer for this event, Alex Fennell, doesn’t play a lot of WHFB. That said, he’s more than willing to make a rules call if two teams need one. Sometimes they may even be correct, but they’re always binding. If teams would prefer someone else to make a ruling then any of Matt Cassidy, Larry Motolla or Travis Weyforth can provide one.
