Im working on a list. Let me know what you think of this:
[HQ] Hive Tyrant - x2 TW Devourers w/ BL Worms, Hive Commander, Wings --285 pts
[HQ] Hive Tyrant - x2 TW Devourers w/ BL Worms, Hive Commander, Wings --285 pts
[Fast Attack] Bood of Garoyles (x10 models) -- 60 pts
[Fast Attack] Bood of Garoyles (x10 models)-- 60 pts
[Elite] Hive Gaurd Bood (x2 models) -- 100 pts
[Elite] Hive Gaurd Bood (x2 models) -- 100 pts
[Elite] The Doom of Malan`tai- Mycetic Spore -- 130 pts
[Heavy Support] - Trygon Prime -- 240 pts
[Heavy Support] Tyon -- 200 pts
[Troop] Tervion - Toxin sacs -- 170 pts
[Troop] Tervion - Toxin sacs -- 170 pts
[Troop] Termagant Brood (x10 models) -- 50 pts
[Troop] Termagant Brood (x10 models) -- 50 pts
My idea is that the Hive tyrants are there for redundancy, and also for the fact that I like them. One has Hive commander, the other has Old Adversary. The gargoyle broods are their for each to back them up.
Ill admit that I am a new player and don't quite understand how the gargoyles provide cover. The reason being is that the hive tyrant cant join their group so the enemy can decide to shoot directly to the tyrant. If the I choose to use the cover of the gargoyles I only get a 4+ save rather than my 3+ save. So why do that? I can see using look out sir but as far as I know the tyrant can take look out sir rolls because hes not a character or independent character? This could be FAQed but Im not sure.
The tervigons are great. I love them and the models look sick. Im not sure whether to take Onslaught or Catalyst for them or roll out of the BRB? Suggestions there? They will stick with the termagaunts and be used for any objective points. I can leave the original termgant broods behind if need be for objective points on my side.
I have never used the DoM but he looks like a really bad ass dude to roll so im gonna try it. In a mycetic spore to get the biggest bang for my buck. I am also rolling 2 broods of hive gaurds cause I like their not needing line of sight and they have 2 wounds a piece.
The trygons I was planning on Deep Striking nearby each other ot provide synapse. Thats 18 shots off the bat if they can both come in at the same time. Having Hive Commander makes that a little more likely.
So my math shows that this is 1885. This leaves some points left over and I am not sure what to do with them. Is having two hive tyrants overkill? Think this list is viable? So far I have gotten nothing but slaughtered playing 40k in general but especially with tyranids. I would like to say thats mostly because I forget to use all my awesone nid rules. But after doing this research and putting this list together I will be better equipped.
Suggestions please and feedback!!
Thanks!
Cris

I agree with the old adversary/hive commander split. You listed it as both with hive commander so i was going to point that out till i read. I run a trygon prime with doom in pod deep strike set up and really like that, so you could try swapping out the other trygon for doom to see if you like it. Usually the doom sucks enough brains to get up to str6+ and if it doesnt you can use the prime to smash any heavy armor the turn after. I'm not a competitive player however, i play for fun. You lists looks like a good one to me.

-First off use some of those spare points to give the tervigons their max allotment of psychic powers. You're going to want your best chance of getting endurance/iron arm that you can.
-I don't really see the point in my lists of adding OA for Flyrants because you already get the rerolls on shooting. I don't really like to get them into assault because even if they win they get ripped to shreds on the following turn.
-Doom rocks. End of story. Only thing to watch out for is opponents who get pissed when their army gets sucked up by a 90pt model. I like switching out his roll for the BRB table that has puppet master on it. Reason being you can get puppet master which lets you take control of an opponents unit, invisibility which makes the Doom a royal pain, and at the least psychic shriek which is his ability in a psychic spell.
-Gargoyles provide cover by just flying in front of your flyrant. They block 25% of the model so he gets a 5+ cover. Good for the first turn or two but the flyrant usually outruns them.
-If you don't want two trygons, try a carnifex with 2 TL devourers with brainleech worms in a spore. If you have a few extra points you can give him bio plasma and watch tightly grouped termies and such cry.

The Shrike - This is just a 1999+1 so a single FOC.
Rotary - I have a doom of malantai in a mycetic spore in the elite category. I was planning on having the trygons back him up. Is this what you mean?
NidsNguard - The reason I have OA is cause I can with the redundancy. No point of having it twice right? I was thinking of putting TL devoureres on the spore for the DoM. Otherwise I can add points into the gants? Make them devy gants? Or I could remove some gargoyles and try to make points for a fex in a spore?
THanks for the suggestions guys!

A lot of tyranid lists cannot compete in a tournament because the cannot commit to the whole "get in their face" approach. A lot of top-list nowadays (tau/eldar) got a lot of shooting but cannot handle all these monstrous creatures at once if you play it right. Its all about the mission so even when you do get shot to pieces you still need to win the objective if you can.
About your list?
- lose the hive commander..its nice but these points can be spend elsewhere to give the enemies army more threats.
- Hive Guard these days simply lose the shooting game..at best you will take down a flyer but thats still very hard. The cannot take down wraithtknights or riptides and wave serpents shoot them down first.
- Gargoyles are nice to tie units up but you don't need them to gain cover. Walking MC's can get cover if the simply place a feet in area Terrain and flying hives can fly above terrain and use jinks first and when the crash down the can still use terrain. When a hive tyrant uses 'jinks' the are great for sniping characters in combination with 'enfeeble'. use snapshots to precision shoot a Toughness 3 character and watch him die. He can then assault the remaining unit.
- Your tervigons need all psychic powers. With two Tervigons you get at least one with iron arm most times and this helps you with keeping your own objective at the end of the game.
How about this list:
Hive Tyrant: Wings, 2 sets of TL Brainleech Devourers, 260
Hive Tyrant: Wings, 2 sets of TL Brainleech Devourers, Hive commander- 285
Doom of Malantai: Mycetic Spore- 130
Ymgarl Genestealers x5 - 115
Ymgarl Genestealers x5 - 115
Tervigon: Catalyst, Onslaught, Toxin Sacs- 200
Tervigon: Catalyst, Onslaught, Toxin Sacs- 200
Termagants x10
Termagants x10
Mawlock- 170
Mawlock- 170
Mawlock- 170
defence line with comm relay= 70
Total: 1985
Place a big chunk of cover in your deployment zone and protect the beasts you cannot place in reserve. On tervigon outflanks with hive commander and the other uses the comm relay to unleash hell in turn 2.

I like his idea of removing OA from the flyrant. Th twin linking prevents it from being usefull on the to hit and most of the units i target with it seem to be wounding on 2's. Depending on your opponent that 25points could be a really nice savings, especially if you pull the trygon for a doom in pod. You could end up with alot more points to spend here.

That was a typo with the two hive tyrants. My plan was to have one of them with Old adversary and one with Hive commander. I could remove OA though and save the points for elsewhere.
Shogun I dont quite understand what you are saying though. If I hear you correctly your saying that I should try to get my army in as soon as possible. Try to put and keep the pressure on. This is essentially my tactic yes. But then you also add in a defence line in your list? I dont see how that would help much. As I would be barreling over it anyways to get at the enemy? Elaborate if you can. Thanks!
And Rotary I already have a DoM in my list. He is in a mycetic spore

Shogun has some good points, but a few things.
Ymgarl units - 5 Really wont cut it per unit.
Overwatch will tear through them far too quickly.
Mawlocs - They arent too bad, but once in combat they are hardly worth taking.
Nice to pop up and cause a few wounds, but really not worth the 510 points for all 3.
I can see the idea of popping up in the middle on a castle style list, but even then it really wont be enough.
Eldar, tau and IG are the main gunline armies and all 3 have the ability to remove mawlocs quickly.
And with a decent spread on troops, the templates really wont do much.
Gargoyles are worth their weight in gold here.
Throw on both upgrades and have fun.
Can either take smaller units to soak overwatch and then let something else assault (ymgarls)
Or simply use them as a huge assault unit.
Wraith knights are riptides are killed pretty easily in combat by gargoyles.
They have the speed to get into combat, mixed with the special rules and poison and your causing auto-wounds and on average, half your hits will wound too.

I rather have more but in this armylist the really are nice for harassment. if you give them Toughness 5 first turn the will survive overwatch and keep an enemy unit locked next turn. The are also the ultimate wave-serpent killers.

I used trygons before but the where always shot down or just killed one unit and then got shot down. Mawlocks are just that tough and their deep strike blasts hits the rear of a waveserpent or other (imperial) vehicles. The can also use 'hit and run'. The top tournament lists don't really got a lot of nasty close combat units.

Yes, the became better without 5th edition fearless wounds but the are still vulnerable to enemy fire. If you want them to harass the enemy at turn 2 you need to fly towards the enemy and take incoming fire and thats just trowing away points.
I once played against a waveserpent list and in my first turn I removed the mawlocks back to reserve and I only got 2 groups of 10 guants behind a defence line with comm relay completely behind cover with nightfight. Waveserpents move forward and got no target to shoot at! Turn 2 All units move out of reserve or deepstrike.

I am soooo confused by this list. It's not competitive at all. Now, if you're playing fun, I applaud you because it looks like a SUPER fun list, but on the competitive level you'll last 1, maybe 2 turns....
First off, Genestealers should never go in a mycetic spore. Let alone ever have an upgraded weapon unless you have extra points. Spike rifles are silly, you'd be better off with spinefists lol.
Heavy slot looks great, but you are wasting points on Regen for the HQ Tervigon and are taking Lictors...what is the purpose of them in this list? They don't synergize with anything else and it seems that is the story with all of the units, they are all working individually....Tyranids CANNOT do that, Grey knights maybe, but nids? No...
Regarding the OP. If you're looking for a decent 2k list I would suggest this:
2 Flyrants (1 Hive commander, both Dual TL- Devs)
Doom ( spod)
3 Zoans ( spod)
3 Hive guard
2 Tervigons (3 psychic powers, AG+ TS, Cluster spines
2 units of 10 Termagants
2 Dakkafex (either individually in spods or walking)
Sprinkle in other units to your liking, but this should fair you well
