Forgive me if this has been answered. bit i can not find it. The warpfire thower can stand and shoot, but how does the the stand an shoot work? is it launch the template before they move? is it 2D6 shots as if in CC? Does it shout once the enemy is in range? i am confused.

like every other ranger weapon, the stand&shoot is resolved before any movement, just shoot as usual before the opponent moves
It was much better in previous editions with fixed charge distances, but it can still come in handy, especially as nothing forces you to shoot directly at the unit charging you ... you can "miss" it as long as you're firing in your front arc
It doesn't have any special attacks in CC, it usually just dies
Though I already had one beat the crap out of a DE Supreme Sorceress (finished off her escort on the stand&shoot) in 2 combat rounds
