So, this has come up in a few games recently, and none of the guys in our group who've been there at the time have been able to figure it out. Which is really quite annoying, considering that I don't think it's a difficult question.

So, say I have a normal open-topped Vehicle, i.e. an Ork Battlewagon with 4 Big Shootas, in which there is a unit, say 20 Shoota Boyz. If I move 6", I can fire one weapon at full BS and the others as Snap Shots. But, how does this apply to the boyz inside? Can I fire one boy using BS2, and the others using BS1? Same goes for if I move 12", and can only fire snap shots, can the guys inside fire snap shots too?

Now say I have a Fast open-topped Vehicle, i.e. a Dark Eldar Venom with 2 Splinter Cannons, in which there's a unit of 5 Kabalite Warriors. If I've moved 12", I can fire two weapons at full BS, does the same go for the guys inside, or will they all fire snap shots?

Or, do the guys in the transport and the transport itself both count as the transport for the purposes of this? I.e. in the Dark Eldar example, if I'm allowed to fire 2 weapons at full BS, do I choose 2 Weapons from either the Kabalite Warriors or the Venom, i.e. I can fire a Splinter Cannon from the Venom and a Blaster from the Warriors at full BS, and fire all the other weapons as snap shots?

Thanks in advance!

Check the rules for Fire Points under Transports. That will tell you how embarked models fire.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If you move more than 6" the passengers can only fire snapshots that turn. (P78)
P82 covers open topped vehicles and has a bit more info, none of which removes this restriction. IMO this nerfs most dark eldar lists into unplayability. What is the point of fast open topped transports that need to move or be in cover to survive, yet if they do move your troops are BS1 and cannot assault that turn? ...got a little off topic there sorry, its a current sore subject for my poor Dark Eldar.

Yeah heres the line (p78)
Models firing out of a vehicle that moved at combat speed [ 6" or less] count as having moved that turn. [So full BS, except for things like heavy weapons are now snaps] Models firing out of a vehicle that moved at Cruising Speed can only fire Snap Shots that turn. They Cannot fire if the vehicle moves Flat Out or uses Smoke Launchers.

So your example of the orks, they all retain full BS (2, hahaha) and can fire all weapons as they're all assault. If the Battlewagon moves >6" up to 12, or 13 with red paint, you can make all shots as snaps.

As the rules for passengers are not the same as the rules for vehicle weapons (stationary = full BS, combat = 1 full BS + Snaps, cruising = All Snaps) Having a fast vehicle modifies the rules for how many weapons the VEHICLE may fire at what skills, not the passengers
