I've started to think about picking up a small ( 500 pt) Imperial guard detachment. I really have no interest in developing this into a full army, so I want to be picky about what models I pick up.

My first thoughts of course, are a command squad and a veteran squad in a pair of Vendetta, but I thought I'd open it up to discussion. What else would make a solid ally detachment, for my Dark Angels, Tau Empire, and perhaps SoB should they get an update.

Doesn't this belong in tactics?

The problem with your plan, as I see it, is that Dark Angels, Tau and/or Sisters all have very different uses for IG as allies. What helps the Tau out a lot might not carry as much weight for Sisters and so on.

What kind of lists do you run with your other armies, if i may ask?

Okay, First of all. I don't have a sisters army yet, that's more a hypothetical should they get an update I intend to build the army.

For my Dark Angel, I will run a variety of lists, I can do just about anything from pure deathwing, pure raven wing, or even pure greenwing. and any combination there of.

For Tau: the core of my lists are: the Farsight bomb (( aka, farsight and 7 crisis bodyguards) a Riptide, and 2 squads of fire warriors in devil fish.
