So after more than 15 years I'll be playing my first (6E) 40K game with my Eldar. My opponent is a 15yr vet who will be taking it easy on me supposedly and helping me re-learn. This is what I came up for for 1K

(Modified list from first post - main theme is somewhat rounded so I can relearn to play since 2nd edition) I'll be posting up an 1850 list later too for a back to back game.

Took 2 HQ - 1 to have the Autarch join the JB and 2 for the spirit seer to be WL and join the WG who are now troops and have psychic powers to use. (I can also do a lock on a JB if that would be better instead of the SS)

total - 1001 pts

HQ (205pts)

Autarch
Eldar Jetbike Laser Lance Mantle of the Laughing God

Spiritseer
Psyker ML2

Troops (631pts)

5x Dire Avenger
Wave Serpent
Twin-Linked Shuriken Cannon, Twin-Linked Shuriken Catapult

10x Guardians
Heavy Weapons Platform - Brightlance

Windrider Jetbike Squad - 3 bikes
1 cannon

Wraithguard x5
Wave Serpent
Twin-Linked Scatter Laser, Twin-Linked Shuriken Catapult

Fast Attack (95pts)

5x Warp Spider

Heavy Support (70pts)

War Walker
Bright Lance, Scatter Laser

Thoughts? BTW there shouldn't be any fliers so anti-flyer shouldn't be needed.

Small but taking their vitamins - 2500ish?
daemons roar - 3000ish ?

Oh fliers - how thou hath ruined the game

Executing Exarch

The Twilight Zone

The lone warlock has no squad to join, and will be an easy target. Warlocks can only join squads of guardians now, so either add some guardians or drop the lock.

The farseer would benefit from a singing spear, but it is not required.

For 5 avengers the exarch is overkill. You would be better off dropping the ex to grab more avengers. If you really want the ex, toss battle fortune.

WG can only be troops if you take a spiritseer, which would not be a bad idea. Otherwise, you need another troop choice.

The warp spider exarch is also a bit underwhelming for the points, so probably best to drop em to a normal spider.

The reapers are currently kitted out for MEQ hunting, but it is an expensive loadout with a narrow role. Might be better to take starshot missiles for the squad instead.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Thanks doc! I posted what Battlescribe listed...I'll pull out my codex tonight and do the list the old fashion way. I'll remove the exarchs (except the DR one), the lock and add a spirit seer, and give the reapers flakk/frag. Was thinking of swapping the WG with fire dragons for more bodies.

Unrelenting Rubric Terminator of Tzeentch

In the Ring of Debris Around Uranus

It is up to you but you may want to take an autarch on jetbike with mantle +/- fusion gun and lance - I think he will do more for you than he would as a farseer and since he can't join a squad he does not need to be a farseer . If you want one put him with the guardians with the warlock for some buffing... Good luck and cheers

Starcannons are meh. I like Bright Lances with guardians better.

Ok I've swapped the cannon for a bright lance.

Scatterlasers are better than both of them for guardians.. Vehicles in this edition are not going to be killed by a single brightlance (Run the numbers, it's comical).

Since the dire avengers have a transport, you may as well downgrade them to guardians. They do the same thing essentially, and even though they have shorter range they have a transport so that shouldn't matter. Play test it and see if I'm right; the extra range might really help them out. With those points you could save though you could throw a TL SL on the serpent like you did with the wraithguard one.

Also, probably best to switch out the warwalker's weapons to SL StC. Again, the brightlance just isn't going to do much. If you're shooting anything AV 13/14 with it, firstly it isn't going to have much of a chance of doing anything (Again, run the maths if you're sceptical,) and secondly the SL is wasted other than for a twink link which is inferior to dual brightlances. Other than that, against AV 12 or less the S6 spam is just better. Hopefully your wraithguard can be used in a pinch to deal with really heavy vehicles such as land raiders. Land raiders will be the only common vehicle you'll have trouble with. (Predators suffer hard to spiders).

^^ I've found that using a BL in a guardian squad has always done well for me.

I'll take experience and real results over mathematical theory any day, but the mathematical theory really doesn't support the BL.

OP should probably play-test it and play around with some numbers on it.

Of course, it was always just a personal suggestion.
