Subject: My First Tabletop Army! CSM

Brain-Dead Zombie of Nurgle

Hello Everybody! I've finally caved and have assembled a sizable CSM army after many years of playing the WH games and reading the books. I've tried to do as much research as I can into a good army composition and I wanted some feedback on the current list I have assembled. It is my understanding that the 6th codex has put a heavier focus on shooting than assault so I gone for slightly more ranged units, please correct me if I am mistaken in this. My intent is to have both squads of 10 CSM's carry two plasmas and a combi-plas but also give them all a close combat weapon, is that a waste of points? I wanted to either run the third unit of 10 CSM's as either another all plasma outfit or proxy them as a unit of 10 plague marines equip with plasma. It is also my understanding that Obliterators are the most cost effective heavy support option so I have purchased five of them, is this too many? I am also toying with the idea of replacing my Chaos Lord with Typhus so I can make the cultists into plague zombies, but I'm not sure if he is worth it. Generally unsure of what upgrades to give all of my squads as well. Please reply with as much feedback and possible tactics as you can. Thanks very much!
HQ:
Typhus
Chaos Space Marine Lord (From Dark Vengeance Set) - Unsure of how to outfit him
Heavy Support:
x5 Obliterators - MoN
Elites: (Maybe)
x10 Plague Marines w/ two plasma guns and an asp with a plasma pistol and a powersword
x1 Helbrute w/ Multi-Melta and Powerfist
Fast Attack:
x10 Raptors w/ two meltas, meltabombs and an asp with a bolt-pistol and a powersword
Troops:
x10 CSM w/ two plasma guns and an asp with a combi plas, all models have cc weps
x9 CSM w/ four powerfists, four poweraxes and an asp with a powersword and a plasma pistol all models have cc weps (Will run with Typhus)
x10 Cultists, CC models
x10 Cultists, ranged models
Dedicated Transport:
x2 Rhinos, not sure what else to give them

If you take typhus plagues become troops csm with 4x PF and 4x PA is not legal. Only the champ an take item's from the armory such as power fists and/or power axes, also must have MoN to run with typhus.

Yeah, I agree that the PMs should be moved to troops. That just begs the question of if you feel you need to have the regular CSM as well.
And once you've gotten to that point, it REALLY makes me question why you'd bother with the cultists. You've got a huge chunk of your points tied up in not very much killing power. I mean, totalling up the PMs, CSM, and cultists, you're really looking at roughly 600 points that basically boil down to a little bit of plasma. I'd seriously consider chopping down those troops (or dropping the cultists for more PMs) so that you can get more killing power in the list.
Also, if you drop those worthless rhinos, you can get yourself another obliterator, which will help a lot more than the do-nothing-risk-lots-pay-points transports you're taking now.
By my personal preference, I'd drop the hellbrute, the rhinos, and the cultists, and pour those points into another squad of raptors. If you run the lord as Huron, you can infiltrate your plague marines, deepstrike the oblits, jump in the raptors, and you can have a nice little plague party in your opponent's deployment zone turn 2.

Thanks for the replys guys, and please keep them coming! If have yet to place weapons on these models so everything is still up in the air. What if I where to use two squads of PM equip with the plasma and stick them in the rhinos and use the last squad of ten as assault CSM w/ the fists and axes along with MoK. I'm not really in the mindset of doing away with any of my models either, I figured by taking Typhus I could make my cultists a little less useless by making em plague zombies. Also, you say I am seriously lacking in firepower, how do I rectify this? I figured mass plasma and 5 oblits was pretty punchy

This cannot be done regular csm cannot equip both power axes and power fists only the champ can purchase wargear such as power axes and power fists
